The Early Student Years

As far as I can remember, I enrolled into 2 kindergartens before I begin my formal primary years. The first one was St. Ronan's Kindergarten, which was located in Jalan Pahang, one of the busiest streets in Kuala Lumpur. At that time, my family lived in Taman Gombak. Then I entered Alwan Kindergarten in Desa Jaya, Kepong after my family moved into our new house in Bandar Menjalara.

I only spent about 8 months studying in Year 1 in Taman Bukit Maluri Primary School in Kepong when my father was transferred to Ipoh. I then studied in Cator Avenue Primary School, situated just opposite the Ipoh General Hospital. I was a school prefect for 3 years in Cator Avenue, starting from Year 2. In Ipoh, my family lived in Taman Rapat Setia Baru, Gunung Rapat, which is a suburb area nearby the city of Ipoh.

Our family moved back to Kepong during the fasting month of Ramadan, in April 1992. I completed my primary schooling years in Taman Bukit Maluri Primary School, becoming the Deputy Head Prefect and Best Student in 1994, during Year 6. I obtained 3As and 1B in the UPSR exams that year. My hope to enter a boarding school was dashed, as I didn’t get straight As. So I went into Form 1 in the neighbouring school, Taman Bukit Maluri Secondary School, together with most of my friends from primary years.
