by Leo Lionni
Goal
To have the students understand:
- We need more than physical things to survive.
- We need to take care of our spiritual and emotional self as well as our physical self.
Introduction:
- Emotional drought or rut.
- Different things can do to get out of drought or rut.
Procedure:
1. Introduce topic and book.
2. Read book.
3. Assess students understanding and clarify if necessary.
Assessment:
What did Frederick gather? Why?
Why were the things Frederick gathered so important to the mice?
What was the relationship like between Frederick and the mice:
- in the beginning of the story?
- at the end of the story?
What would you gather if you were Frederick? Why?
Parting thought:
spiritual self vs. physical self
Frederick representing spiritual part of person,
other mice representing the
