How To Add Files

So you want to add some resource files that you used at a Carrot Common Liturgy. Here are the steps you can use. You may want to print this page off as a reference before you do this.

  1. Prepare the files that you want to upload. You may want to produce an HTML version and a version that works in whatever word processing program that you use or perhaps in rich text format.
  2. Go to the GeoCities File Manager web page http://www.geocities.com/members/tools/file_manager.html
  3. Sign in as Member Name: carrotcommon and the password
  4. To add a new prayer file, say for example, myprayer
    1. Click on the box to the left of prayers.html
    2. Click on the Edit button which is on the page just below the list of files
    3. Add an entry for "myprayers.html" in the prayers.html file by copying an existing entry and editing it. Note that there is 2 places that need to be changed for the myprayers.html file that you generated and one place which is for the word processing format of the file. Be sure to change the ".doc" extension of the file if you are using another word processor other than Word97 or Word95.
    4. Use the Preview and Save buttons to see and save your changes
    5. Be sure to look at the page that you just edited to verify that your change is there. You will probably have to hit the reload button on your browser to get the most current version.
    6. Go back to the File Manager page to upload your files
    7. At the EZ File Upload section, Choose the browse button to choose the file you want to upload.
    8. Do this for each version of the file, for example myprayer.html as well as myprayer.doc (or the extension for whatever word processor you use)
    9. Click on the Upload button to upload the files
    10. Again, verify that the files were uploaded by hitting the Refresh Directory button as well as going to the web page and checking out your change. Again, you will probably have to hit the Reload button of your web browser.
  5. Now, in order to supress the web advertising pop-up window, go the the GeoCities GeoGuide Manager web page at http://www.geocities.com/members/tools/geoguide_manager.html
  6. Sign in as done previously for the File Manager page
  7. You can skip steps 1. and 2. since they have already been done and just click on the Activate My GeoGuide button
  8. Click on the Activate All button to have all the files listed have the web advertising pop-up page supressed.
  9. Again, go back to the Carrot Common Web site to verify the everything is working as you expect
  10. Send email to carrotcommon@geocities.com and say in the note that you uploaded some files. This will let the webmaster know to download your files so a backup copy is made in case the web site needs to be recreated for any reason.
