Groundskeeper's Rules

Ignored, unheard, or misinterpreted, these were the rules Sepdet established during her years of service as Keeper of Land. She is now retired, and another person has the position, so these rules are no longer necessarily enforced (but be careful anyway!)

1) Treat the Wheel with respect.

Take your trash with you. Don't litter. It's not disrespectful to the spirits to laugh, play, or just generally enjoy the air. (Even winter spirits enjoy an occasional snowball fight). It is disrespectful to discard things and then leave them there, weaver or otherwise. The Groundskeeper's shelter is available for temporary Wheel-storage, and as a source for blankets, first aid supplies, and other items. Use that if you have stuff you've brought to the caern for a tribe-moot or some other gathering.

2) No horsing around the Tablestone.

It does not house a special spirit, at least, no more than the pool, fire, or other parts of the Wheel. However, it does have a pathstone set in it, and it does have very old and sacred runes carved in it. You wouldn't disturb them any more than you'd spit on a gravestone. It was originally used as an altar, when the Wheel was reopened. Be gentle around it, and don't use it as a mere windbreak or convenient place to nap.

3) No smoking except for ritual purposes.

Most cigarettes and tobacco products are processed and wyrm-tainted, and don't belong within the wards. Unfiltered, hand-rolled cigarettes or pipe tobacco may not be, but they still fall under Justice's weaver-ban within the bounds of the Wheel.

4) Hunting may be restricted to lupus only.

We have a huge Garou and wolf population in the area, so it's better if everyone gets their food from sources other than hunting most of the time, whether within the Bawn or beyond. Stormcrow has made his chickens freely available, as well as the mice and other vermin on his farm. Following precedents established by previous Keepers, Sepdet may order a temporary hunting-ban to all non-lupus, if food supply becomes scarce or weather harsh for the deer, rabbits, and other important prey animals. This has happened the last two winters.

5) Approach the caern in lupus, if possible.

She is planning on announcing this officially at the next Moot. It will reduce the extensive camouflaging and landscaping she has to do to keep our tracks towards the caern from becoming too visible.

Groundskeeper's Shelter

This is the dugout in the Alpha's Compound, located off the south edge of the caern. Approach it from the dense forest by going southwest, from the same part of the woods where one turns off the track towards Half Moon Pool.

About two-thirds of the shelter are dug below ground, revealing the rocky soil and loam of the forest floor packed hard and smoothed by hand; above this, ceiling and upper walls are braced and laced with stout branches covered over by a thick layer of sod except for the topmost point of the domed roof. There, a tarp thin enough to let light filter through suffices. Folded army blankets and tarps are stacked in the middle of the room, and a wicker-woven basket filled with first aid supplies, bowls, and several canteens is tucked in the right corner. Propped against the back are a few tools: a rake, a small hand-scythe, a few shovels and trowels, a paintbrush and a can of tar, several stone-cutting chisels and awls, and coils of rope. A quantity of firewood and brush is piled along the base of the left wall; over this, split planks have been set to form simple shelves. Parchment in clear plastic bags, small paint and ink-pots, reed brushes, candles, matches, and various boxes of shells, rocks, bones, and feathers are neatly arranged upon them. Bundles of dried herbs are suspended from the struts of the crude ceiling, and sometimes too clothes or blankets may also be pinned up to dry. At the entrance, two large clay oil lamps nestle in niches at eye level just inside.
