"Broom lizard" 11/96

Casual pick-up RP. Sepdet, then Groundskeeper, plays a game with an Uktena cub (Jonah) and hangs out with her pack, Whispers on the Wind (Dylan and Wayfinder, Stargazers, Paul/Shows-the-way/Shesemw, a Strider)

When Jonah looks back her way Sepdet grins, spins the broom in her hand, and taps the side of her nose patiently.
Shin frowns slightly, looking down at the instrument. He grinds his teeth together and forces himself to speak softly. "I - can't play. It'd be wasted on me..."
Siobhan sighs, and regards Shin patiently, like an elder would a cub. "There be a big diff'rence between can't, "she pauses here for a moment, "an' /won't/, laddie..."
Shows-the-Way rubs up against Dylan again, wetting down Dylan's leg this time. But only a little. Between cloth and the small fire, he's nearly dry now. He glances over to Shin, Gifts are never wasted. And if you like, you can learn to play. A village taught me that everyone has music in them, if they learn to hear it. And let it out.
Jonah's curious look turns to a frown and he says petulantly to Sepdet, "What?"
Pack> Dylan says "Want Joseph!"
Sepdet reaches out and taps Jonah gently on the chest with the bristle end of her broom. ~Catch th' lizard,~ she declares in about the same tone as a human's "you're it!", and then zips out of the clearing, neatly dodging the new arrivals.
Shin lifts the simple flute and holds it like a baton, arching an eyebrow at Siobhan's tone. "Yes, there is. But there's no time to waste when someone lacks the natural apptitude." He pauses. "And you're not Scottish."

Shows-the-Way comes in from the woodland to the south.
Shows-the-Way has arrived.
Shows-the-Way trots past the treeline, ears flicking about madly. He looks amused.
Sepdet hovers, looking back over her shoulder. ~Cubs. Gotta hone their reflexes,~ she says agreeably, dropping the broom at the base of one of the trees at the Wheel's rim and shinnying up onto her fabvorite branch.
Wayfinder comes in from the woodland to the south.
Wayfinder has arrived.
Sepdet is just disappearing up into the branches of a spruce at the edge, her broom lying on the ground in front of it.
Wayfinder zigzags pell-mell through the woods, and careens into the Wheel clearing.
Shows-the-Way hops to the side, twisting about in the air to face the charging 'Gazer, tail swinging wildly in reflection of his mood.
Jonah comes in from the woodland to the south.
Jonah has arrived.
Long distance to Jonah: Sepdet's broom is lying at the edge of the Wheel where the forest makes a nice dark wall. She is, of course, not visible.
Wayfinder pounces Shows, her smaller wolf-form barely making him take a step backward. She mock-growls, and nips his shoulder.
Dylan comes in from the woodland to the south.
Dylan has arrived.
Dylan slides into the wheel, tongue lolling and eyes gleaming with amusement.
Jonah bursts past the treeline, panting. He hauls up to a stop and leans over to place his hands on his knees and draw a deep breath. Looking at the ground for a few labored breath, he spies Sepdet's broom. "I. Think." He looks towards Dylan and straightens, "He's it!"
Dylan chuffs. Shining-Blade, not I. He glances behind him curiously.
From afar, Jonah, not having any idea what we're playing, is assuming a game of tag. So. :-)
Shining-Blade comes in from the woodland to the south.
Shining-Blade has arrived.
Shows-the-Way retaliates by licking Wayfinder's ear, then leaping vertically. To land on the other side of her, ears cocked towards Jonah and Dylan.
Sepdet drops down out of the tree behind Jonah, pouncing on his shoulders and giving him a shove. ~Lizard caught you!~ she yips.
Dylan ducks to one side as Shinging-blade comes into view.
Wayfinder streaks away, through the Wheel, heading north.
Wayfinder heads into the center.
Wayfinder has left.
At the center, Wayfinder heads north, away from the center of the Wheel.
Shining-Blade tears up the ground, clutching Siobhan's flute in his maw. He barrels towards whoever's closest, head lowering.
Dylan yips m and moves to place Shows-the-Way between himself and danger.
Jonah sprawls forward, landing on his hands and knees. "Oh damn." He half turns and looks back at Sepdet, "Speak English, would ya!" he shouts, laughing.
Sepdet straightens and grins mischievously. "Gotta work on your reflexes, cub. Always look up. And remember than surprises may happen, anytime, anywhere."
Dylan leans his head over to bite Sepdet's ankle, just as an illustration of her point.
Shows-the-Way spins in place as Wayfinder leaves, ending up facing Shining-Blade with Dylan behind him. Down to his belly, then rolling madly to the side to attempt to avoid the swipe of the flute in the other wolf's jaws. And failing. But, on the plus side, his rolling carries him straight towards Jonah's legs.
Shining-Blade strikes home with the flute. Got you! He prances away, dashing up to bounce off of a small rise.
Jonah, already halfway down, goes the rest of the way when Shows-the-Way points out the direction by taking out his legs. The boy cries out in consternation, "Surprises, hell." And he sprawls out on his back. "I'm looking up now."
Sepdet hops straight up in the air, but, uncharacteristically, isn't quick enough to dodge, and goes sprawling over her packmate. She looks across at Jonah sheepishly.
Dylan squirms around to lick Sepdet's face cheerfully.
Shining-Blade stands on top of the rise, tail thrashing slowly back and forth. He jerks his muzzle up and lets the flute spin up into the air, leaping to catch it proudly.
Jonah tilts his head to the side to look at Sepdet. "Nice reflexes." He delivers the line deadpan, but soon loses it and cracks a grin.
Shows-the-Way barks, Yes, but you are it! as he lurches to his feet and dances away towards the center of the wheel.
Shows-the-Way heads into the center.
Shows-the-Way has left.
At the center, Shows-the-Way contorts and blurs as he is transformed.
At the center, Shows-the-Way shifts into Homid form.
Dylan realizes Jonah is It again, and begins wriggling out from under Sepdet in preparation for making his get-away.
At the center, Paul skids to a halt in front of the tablestone and snaps off a deep martial bow, then leaps into motion again towards the firepit, bluring down as he moves.
At the center, Paul heads northeast to the fire pit.
Near the Fire Pit, Paul contorts and blurs as he is transformed.
Near the Fire Pit, Paul shifts into Lupus form.
Shining-Blade gets a head start.
Shining-Blade heads into the center.
Shining-Blade has left.
On the northern curve, Shining-Blade dashes at you, brandishing the flute again.
Jonah doesn't seem to make the same realization, and slowly props himself on his elbows, making a show of it and groaning. "Ooof. I'm so abused."
On the northern curve, Wayfinder disappears northwards, into the woods, with a flick of her tail.
On the northern curve, Wayfinder turns to the north, and leaves past the rim of the Wheel.
On the northern curve, Shining-Blade turns to the north, and leaves past the rim of the Wheel.
Sepdet picks herself up and tugs at Dylan's tail. "Testing your handiwork, healer?" she pouts sheepishly.
Dylan pauses for a split second, one ear cocked at Sepdet questioningly. Not hurt?
Sepdet shakes her head quickly at Dylan. "Nah, just a bit slow." She grins and picks up her broom again, watching the mayhem she started with a pleased smile but apparently having some thought to her chores for the evening.
Jonah announces, "I need to learn to speak Garou." He sits up and looks at Sepdet. "So I know what game I'm playing."
Near the Fire Pit, Still steaming slightly in the welcome warmth of the fire, Paul says towards the south, "Sorry. Twas tag. Shin got me, I got you. Meia culpa. Couldn't resist. On the other hand, she IS right next to you with Dylan."
Dylan casts a look at Sepdet and blurs upward before catching Paul's suggestion to Jonah.
Dylan contorts and blurs as he is transformed.
Dylan shifts into Homid form.
Sepdet takes a step away from Jonah, holding the broom up to ward off frontal attacks with a yip of mock-protest directed towards Paul.
Jonah grins, "Point." He half-rises and lunges towards Sepdet, arm outstretched, head ducked to avoid the broom.
Dylan shimmers into form already trying to back away and ends up tripping himself and going down in a rush of laughter. He rolls back, ending up on his feet, muddy and highly entertained.
Sepdet drops the broom as he lunges, much like a lizard shedding its tail, and dodges towards the center. "Yi!"
You paged Jonah with 'Your choice if you get her; I donno how quick he is, and she is, as she said, a bit stiff from a healed leg wound from Friday night.'.
Jonah pages: He's moderately quick. But I think he'll go for the broom. :-)

Jonah misses Sepdet and scoops up the broom as he scrambles to his feet once more. "Who wants some?" He brandishes the broom menacingly.

Near the Fire Pit, Paul raises a hand by the firepit. "I'll take two? They look pretty small."
Sepdet keeps going until she's on the far side of the Tablestone, then turns back. "Hey. Now you get to sweep," she says brightly.
On the southern curve, Dylan's eyes gleam and he begins backing away toward the pool.
On the southern curve, Dylan follows the Wheel to the Pool.
On the southern curve, Jonah barks out a laugh. "What do I look like? The Merry Maid?" He sidles towards Dylan.
On the southern curve, Jonah follows the Wheel to the Pool.
Near the Pool, Dylan backs further away, giving every impression of single-minded wariness, though he does seem to be getting quite close to the edge of the water.
Pack> Wayfinder's howl may or may not (because of the wind) drift to you guys. She's not using the gift. It is a simple howl, full of pain, o/~ Why have you forsaken me? ~/o You get the idea she's not really talking to/about you guys, though...
Sepdet grumbles and gingerly seats herself by the Tablestone, still keeping half an eye trained on the proceedings by the water. "Do _I_?" She digs out her sage brush, and proceeds to wipe off the stone with a cheerful hum.
Near the Fire Pit, Paul says with a chuckle, "Well, um. Yes? Merry, at the least. And a maid, betimes."
Near the Pool, Jonah makes his way around Dylan, opposite the pool, and then turns and charges with the broom outstretched.
Sepdet's hum abruptly breaks off along with all movement.
Near the Fire Pit, Paul claps his hands one, loudly, to draw attention. "Not against the flow! Only counter clockwise, to the center, or away from it."
Near the Pool, Robert appears in a glimmer of light.
Near the Pool, Dylan ducks as Jonah lunges toward him, and for the second time that day his feet slip out from under him on the damp earth and he falls, rolling to one side far too slowly to avoid the brush of the broom's bristles. He lies on his back, laughing.
Near the Fire Pit, Paul chuckles and claps. "Sorry. Well swung!"
Near the Pool, Robert shifts instantly into a defensive posture for the briefest of moments before he finishes assessing the situation. After that brief moment, he relaxes and smiles at the two. "New broom sweeping clean?" he asks, amused.
Sepdet is still sitting with her brush poised over the tablestone in mid-polish, not really lookng at anyone. At Robert's comment, however, she gives her head a sharp shake and answers a bit huskily, ~Was _going_ to sweep, but a bit of no-moon mayhem brightens up the spirit of the place just as well,~ she notes wryly.
Near the Pool, Dylan lifts his head to see who has arrived, and smiles at Robert, letting his head sink back to the ground again. Instead of getting up, he fishes inside his jerkin for his flute and, after ascertaining that it was uninjured by the fall, puts it to his lips and begins to play, still flat on his back. The first notes of 'Rocky Road to Dublin,' dance up like a question.
You paged Robert with 'The broom in question looks suspiciously like the one Sepdet normally uses when she's being Groundskeeperish.'.
Near the Pool, Jonah laughs and tosses the broom to Dylan. "Here ya go, my merry maid." He smiles at Robert, "Good evening."
Near the Pool, Robert chuckles and bows to Jonah with a flourish. "Good evening," he replies. Looking down at Dylan, then over at Sepdet, he calls, "Looks like it swept pretty clean to me."
