I have visited this page many times, and each time I didn't know what to say. As I sit here, I still cannot believe what has happened. John was such a specail person. I cannot believe it has been over two years since the accident. Since I've been at school, some people from here have died in car accidents. Each time I hear of another incident, it reminds me of what happened to John and Matt. John, I will never forget you.

I just found out that one of my close friend's mother was killed in a car accident today and I continue to not understand why these type of things happen to such wonderful people. I know God works in mysterious ways but it will never be easy for me to ac ept such a tragic loss. Every car accident I hear about sends my memories back to when I found out about Matt and John and I never know what to say to the family of those killed because I know that nothing can take the pain away except time. The thought and prayers go to Jeannie and her family now as they come to grips with their devastating loss, I know that you, Matt and John, will take care of her mother up there in heaven and I will do my best for Jeannie here gaining strength from my guardian angel

John,I just wanted to let you know that I am so thankful to have you as my guardian angel. I know you helped me jump out the door of the plane and Airborne School and earn my wings and I know that you somehow kept me safe even when danger seemed to find e. I look back on these last two years and I can't believe it has been so long. You touched the lives of the people you knew in such a way that you will always be with us and I thank you for that. I admire your parents' courage and thank them for their continous support. We could never say good-bye because we knew we'd see each other again- in some ways I am sad that I never got to say good-bye but I know that you will always be with me in your own little way, I will never say good-bye. Thank you for eing the person you were and always will be in my mind and heart. Je t'aime... KP

Although it has been two years since the loss of these fine young men, the fond memories are with me each day. While in Maine last week, the sight of windsurfers on the bay and young men at the helm of power boats sent vivid reminders of the things that J hn and Matt loved to do while in Maine. Your friends and family are thinking of you always with memories we will never forget!

I am a new friend of Michelle and Jay Norton simply because my husband and I are bereaved parents. I look in on the guest book from time to time and am always moved by the comments others have made about John and Matt. It gives me such a sense of connecte ness to our own precious daughter who also resides in Paradise. It makes me aware that this life well lived is meaningful no matter the number of years. I look forward to meeting John and Matt some day when we meet our sweet Kristine again. Although we kn w the Nortons for so short a time we are keenly aware of the beauty of their two sons blessed lives. Ann Staudt

Happy Birthday John!!! I can still remember 2 years ago from today. I remember going over to your house and hanging a sign up in your front yard that said Happy Birthday. I was scared to do it for some reason and my mom is actually the one who hung it p. I think I was scared that you would see me. I will never forget the time we spent together in Belgium and in Maine. The memories that we shared in those 10 monthes will live on forever. You mean so much to me and I have missed you so much in these ast 2 years. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of you. I Love You and miss you. Happy Birthday - Millie

I always wondered who i would keep in touch with after we all left ISB and something always told me that you would be one of the few special people i would alwa s keep in touch with, and i still feel that way today. Whenever something big happens in my life i always want to tell you about it, just call you up and share my news. But i know you're watching over me and in that way i do get to share everything wit you. You'll always have that special place in my heart. Thank you for everything you have given and taught me. A flood of memories washes over me on this day, John's birthday. John, the athlete. John, the scholar. John, who could never miss a party. John, who was a master of negotiations - I can't tell you how many time he convinced me of something I was posit ve would go the other way - usually had to do with his own privileges. John, who had such a love of life, such an excitement of discovery. John, who had such a positive influence on others. And here I am wrong in using the past tense. John continues t be a positive influence in many of our lives. We learned from him. Life lessons. The importance of friends, relationships, peace and love. Thank you, John, for all you've given us. I will always love you. Mom.

Happy Birthday Son!! This is the time of year when John,Matt,John Sr. and I usually went to Maine to open the summer cottage. What a wonderful time it was with 3 generations of engineers each trying to suggest new and innovative ways to assemble our large, cumbersome, section l dock and launch it into Sebago Lake. Since the temperature of the lake water is still a bit chilly in Maine, John was always the one designated (BY ME) to be the person on top of the dock sections as they were floated into place. Each year, either John r I would end up in the cold water and we would always pledge that next year we would wait until the 4th of July to put the dock in the lake!!! Well John III, your Grandfather and I will be going to Maine for this Holiday weekend. I will try to recruite alternate manpower to get the dock in this year, but I am sure you will be looking down and laughing loudly as your father goes in for an unexpec ed swim...as usual. We miss you dearly John, but know you and Matt are fine and watching out for all of us that care for you so deeply. DAD

Happy Birthday Son!! I am sure that Matt would have been up early today, making sure that he would be the first in line here in New Jersey to get his driver's license. Matt was always talking about what kind of car he would want (or could afford) with a it of help from his parents. I recall that he had definite ideas about which car his Mom or Dad should buy on our return from Belgium with an eye toward possibly convincing us that it would be appropriate that he take over "that old one" for his personal use on his 17th birthday. I am sure that Matt and John have kept up with all the wonderful comments / memories that each of you have contributed to this website. I will carry all your thoughts and prayers to the cemetery this afternoon as I visit with those two wonderful boys who gave this world so much joy!! All our love, DAD

Michelle, if you are reading these notes, I want to let you know that I am thinking of you. I know there have been so many changes in your life, and I just want to say that it sounds to me like you are doing some wonderful things with your life now. Tha 's not a surprise, you are a caring and giving person, and that's the reason you were a wonderful, loving mom to John and Matt. As Jill leaves to go off to college I think often of John and the promise of his life, the future that he was so looking forwa d to at Duke. That may not have been fulfilled, but his presence on earth so positively affected so many teenagers, all of whom desperately need role models and someone to look up to. Well, Jill knows that John and Matt are in Paradise, and probably ch cking in on her once in a while, shaking their heads and smiling, and encouraging her to do what is right, not necessarily what others might do. Life is so very precious--for those young people who are reading this message, follow the example set for you y John and Matt and make YOUR life important and special, and take care of yourselves, your heart, spirit, and soul. You only have one chance on this earth, and it is important to make your mark on others' hearts by being kind, loving, and responsible. T ke the time to think of others before you think of yourselves. Take care, Michelle and Jay, and best wishes and love to you, and God's blessings in the new millenium.

I have been kept up with information on the tragedy from my mother who is back home in New Jersey. She sent me the article from the Hunterdon County Democrat on the latest news. I first would like to send my heart out to the Norton family. I am sure th t you all are still in quite a bit of shock and quit honestly whenever I hear of this again i can't beleive it either. I went to school with John at Reading Fleming Middle School in Flemington New Jersey, and that is where i really got to know John. I p ayed lacrosse with him there and as well as in a indoor league where we played at a facility right across from the Meadowlands. John was a great kid and it a shame that this has occurred. John would be very happy to know that this site is up and running as a tribute for him and his brother Matt. I didn't have the oppurtunity to get to know Matt but i am sure that he was a great young man. In closing i just would like to say again that this a very unfortunate that this has occurred. The fact that all t e people have paid tribute to them by going to this site and signing this guestbook, i am sure helps to ease some of the pain that the Norton family is going through.

It's been awhile since I last wrote. Yesterday, I was sitting through my lighting design class, and the teacher made a crack about sorce4s, and all I could think about was how much Matt would have loved this class. John Nevile is directing a production of "3 Kings" right now, (for those who dont know him: he's one of the directors of Xfiles), I got a chance to look at the lighting plot today, and noticed that there were moving lights in the plot. Matt was crazy about moving lights, and when he was told tha ISB was thinking about using some in Fiddler, he had a smile on his face for the rest of the closing night of "Blast Off" the show he was stage managing, but as it turned out, the lights werent used in Fiddler. Fiddler has 113 light cues: some which drov Matt up the wall, 3 Kings has 215 light cues (this is a two hour 30 mins show), wow, wouldnt have Matt loved to have run that one? With the anv. of Fiddler come up (closing was March 7th), I cant help thinking about all the backstage jokes that were goin around about Matt and his light cues. (esp. the ones joking about what page the light was on). Matt, I miss you dearly. Esp our jokes about you and "the" string... :) And when I am sitting through 3 kings on friday night, with it's moving lights and 215 ight cues, I will be thinking about you, the shoulder that was always there for me, the "god" light, and most of all: "Today I am a horse" (bang!) I love you kid, and I hope you know how many of us miss you down here!

My daughter Janneke and son Kyran and myself met John and Matt when they lived in Bruxelles and visited us with Michelle. We had (I think) spaghetti for lunch, watched Eurosport and I remember John gave a hint to Michelle they should get a television wher one can get two languages to choose from (English and Dutch). They were great windsurfers, and windsurfing is super here in Zeeland, and I remember leading, with our car, Michelle and the boys with their car to the Brouwersdam. I thought Michelle was suc a fantastic mom, driving all that way (two hours) from Bruxelles to us, for the boys to surf, and just say: " now boys go on, have fun, I get my book out and read in the meantime"! Michelle and Jay, may God bless you and keep you and support you, and give you peace. Much love from Debora, Duncan, Kyran and Janneke

Over the years of moves(oursevles to Europe as well) we kept in touch at least by christmas cards. It's been so long since I've written here but not a day passes when I don't think about John. The impact you had on the lives of the people who knew you was everlasting. I thank you every day for looking down on me from heaven and guarding me as the ang l you were and always will be. This summer, a year from the accident I was at summer training and out in the field. My mom wondered how she would be able to talk to me on this significant and very sad day but as it turned out I ended up in the hospital o I was able to talk to her and spend time thinking about the boys, the accident and where the last year has brought us all. It was an interesting way for my guardian angel to make sure I was okay! I often thought about what John would think of the train ng I was doing as he always insisted I was crazy to go here. I think he'd be surprised by the soldier in me. :-) In so many ways, the circumstances caused many of us who knew them to grow up quickly and face the harsh reality that our loved ones do in fa t get taken from us for reasons which God will not always clearly explain. It seems unbelievable to me still that they were taken from us, perhaps because like I just haven't talked to John in ages but I know that I will always carry at least some of tha denial. I look to the sky and see the stars, remembering how I taught John where Venus was and all the other stars in the beautiful sky and I know that somehow John is looking from the other side, remembering as well. Mr. & Mrs. Norton as always I admire your strength. Please take care. Matt and John we miss you and love you. God Bless all who think of these angels often. ~Kate

I'm sorry I don't know any of you, but I recently was involved in an accident which was strikingly similar. Last summer (August 6th), my son and my daughter, age 17 and 13 respectively, were driving to the mall in Charleston, SC. I was sitting in the fro t passenger seat, my son in the driver's seat, and my daughter in the back. We turned a blind corner and got hit by an oncoming car. My son and my daughter were both killed, my daughter instantly and my son in the hospital several hours later. I search he web every day for people who have gone through the emotional turmoil that I have, I came across this page by accident. I read every message posted by the caring people who visit this page, and all I can say is wow. It's unbelievable how much support ou've gotten from your friends, and I think it is amazing how one another can communicate about this with comfort. The thing that keeps me going is knowing that I will someday see my son and daughter again, and I could only wish that a page in their memo y existed like this one does. Good luck with you always, Fiona

Mike, thank you for this, it is a wonderful collection of memories from Matt and John's lives. I'll never forget any of the memories I have of John. He is one of the most amazing, caring and generous people I have ever met. All of his intentions in li e were good hearted, and all he wanted from people was happiness and their friendship. He was always more than willing to help me with my physics homework, or give advice for any of my problems. He taught me to live life to its fullest and seize every m ment of happiness that I had. Mr. and Mrs. Norton, you raised wonderful sons, and I thank you for the time I got to spend with them, for I cherish every moment of it. Your strength and love have been amazing and you are both a model to us all. Love, Colleen.

I cannot believe it has been an entire year since the accident...in some ways it seems like yesterday because the hurt still comes back so easily. I never thought that one person could affect my life so much...that the loss of one person could create so m ch pain. I think of John every day and remember how much I wished that I could have been closer to him... For all you that went to MUN... Remember wrestling John and Chad on the beach...dancing to "Bittersweet Symphony" and all those great nights we had together? I pray for Mr. and Mrs. Norton each day...in addition to all of you who miss John or Matt just as much as I do... I can't imagine never having known them.

It has been many months since I have been able to visit this site. We moved to Africa a few months ago, and this is the first time I have had access to a computer. Nevertheless I thought of John and Matt everyday, and there is some comfort in returning ere, and still finding so many warm memories written of two such special people. Mr and Mrs Norton my thoughts have been with you also. I have a story to share. After John's death I was extremely heart broken. I missed him terribly, and wished everyday that something or soemone would come along and take that hurt away. The way I remember John most clearly was his love of life and his ove for Millie. And I remember thinking what an incredible feeling that must be to have that kind of fulfilment in life. I remember talking with Millie last year, and she told me that they were probably going to get married. And I rememeber asking God t give me a sign, any sign, if I ever find that kind of love, that kind of fulfilment. Three months ago I moved to Zimbabwe, and I love it here. Two months ago I started dating Scott, whom I believe to be the man of my dreams, and two weeks ago the siste I have always wanted was born. In every way my life now seems complete. I now live everyday of my life to its fullest, never regretting anything I do. John taught me that. I have finally found that happiness with which he lived everyday of his life. And as for the sign...Scott was born on July 8th. And even though it is a sad day, I have found a reason to smile. The way John always found a reason to smile through a bad situation. I still miss you everyday John, but I am so very grateful that you ca e in to my life at all. I will remember you, and the lessons you taught me always.

I regret not going to Matt and John's viewing. I don't kn w why, but it seams like i didn't get to see them one last time. Mrs. Norton gave me one of Matt's key chains. It was of a Scuba Diving fin. Matt loved to Scuba Dive. I love it too. I wear it around my neck to keep remembering Matt. I hope that ever one will remember Matt and John for a long time. They were two kids that we were blessed to have in our lives. SInce they are gone, the only thing we can do is remember them.

Please keep the memories flowing as Michelle and I ry to get on with our lives with all the fond memories of the two greatest guys in the world always on the top of our minds. When John was about four years old, he had a passion for purple trucks!! I don't quite remember why he liked purple trucks but Michelle and I searched long and hard for one as a Christmas present. We finally found one and John was sssooooo happy on Christ as morning! I was driving back from Maine today and I counted 7 purple trucks during the journey. John must have been looking down and smiling with his usual grin!!! God Bless to all his friends and family.

Happy Birthday John! It was exactly a year ago to day that you called me on your birthday from Belgium- it was so awesome to hear your voice. Anyone who knows anything about me knows that I would give anything to hear your voice again. You were truly o e of the best people I have ever met and will probably ever meet. Not a day goes by when you don't come across my thoughts and I often think "what would John say if he could see me now?" A year ago it was sad to talk to you because I couldn't see you bu now it is even sadder to know that I can't pick up the phone and call you or see you. I know that everyone you met was touched by your presence because you were just the type of person that everyone grew to love in an instant. When we were at UVM it wa so much fun to be around you- you kept me laughing constantly. I often wish I could buy more time and if I could I would have spent everything to get more time with you. You will always have a special place in my heart and I miss you more than words ca express. I admire your family for their strength and especially you mom for her courage and help in dealing with this tragedy. Je t'aime toujours. ~Kate

Today is John's birthday. It is a bittersweet day for me, obviously a sad one, yet one that allows me to focus on all the wonderful qualities that John possessed. What I loved most about John was his sheer joy of life, manifested in many ways. He took dvantage of every opportunity that came his way and tried to do his best in any challenge. But it was the more personal side of John where his love of life was best demonstrated. He wanted everyone to be happy. He made people happy. If I was ever angr , upset or just plain having a bad day, he would talk me out of it or do something silly to make me laugh. Once he had me laughing, he knew he had once again prevailed, and all was again right in his world. I think he really felt the pain of others and e did everything he could to help ease it. He may have been tough on the football field, but he had a very soft heart. And a wonderful spirit. May his spirit continue to live in us all. John, I love you.

I really don't know what to write. Matt was a great friend in this world. I was best friends with him in 3rd grade up to 5th grade when he moved. We stayed in touch. Every summer he would come back to the US and we would visit for a day or two. Then e'd go to Maine, and back to Brussels. I was looking forward to hearing from him last summer when I heard the news. I was really hurt. I couldn't bring my self to go to the viewing, but I went to the funeral. I regret not going to the viewing. I trie to put the memories of Matt behind me. I was doing great until the other day. I was cleaning out my attic and I found a bunch of pictures of Matt and I at the Flemington Community Pool under water. Then I found a birthday card he had givin me back in th grade. That set me off. I couldn't not think about it. I just got my driving permit about a month ago. I was driving to school, and i was blinded by the sun. I never saw a bus comming out of the parking lot. I almost hit it. It made me realize j st how easy it is to get into a accident. Then I remembered Matt. This happened on Monday April 12. Matt loved the water. He was always trying to get me to come up to their summer cottage in Maine. I was never allowed to go. I started to scuba dive years ago. Matt loved it too. When we got together, we would share diving stories. I'm sure that if there is scuba diving in heaven, he is diving every day. My mother realized that I was extreamly depressed about my life and how I messed Matt. She contacted Mrs. Norton via telephone. Mrs. Norton took me out, and we had a very nice talk about Matt. She made me realize that life goes on. That you can't chan e the past, so you can only look forward to the future. I really love Mrs. Norton for all that she has done. I think that she has really hepled me with closure. Closure being that I now know that Matt and John didn't suffer, and died peacfully. I just want to saw that Mrs. Norton is the best person in the world. She is a lot younger than she looks too!! She is pretty cool, for an adult. Its been hard for me to express my emotions about Matt's death. Mrs. Norton has really helped me. The sad thing w s that he was moving back to the US this year. I was really looking forward to going to school with him again. Matt, if you can here me, I miss you. I know that you are happy up there. I will always remember you as my best friend.

He always tried to make others happy, and th t is the person I remember and miss so very much everyday. He was truly the most caring, understanding, and giving person. Happy Birthday 16th Matt:) See I didn't forget! I bet they're having a real blast for you in heaven. I was thinking about you today as I do every day but especailly today as it's your birthday:) The memories came flowing back..all of them happy all of hem funny in their own ways.I remember you as if it were yestarday. Reading your father's entry made me realize what a happy time you had on this earth. You certainly did love pasta..i remember that it was either pasta you ate or french fries with plenty of salt...can we say salt! My goodness you used to put 4-5 of those packets of salt on one portion of fries:) You always knew how to make me laugh..although it seemed to everyone that i was always happy ..you helped me when times were rough. Even when I moved to Sweden I had memories of you and via e-mail you still managed to cheer me up when I was down. You still do, your memory and your place in my heart cheers me up when i'm down. I remember how you opened my eyes to the backstage arts of the theatr we made quite a team, eh? Ok ok so I messed up a few times but hey i'm only human:) I'm not really sure what to say but somehow I feel that you hear and understand the words my heart means to utter. Your friendship and love will always be with me, i wa t you to know that you have helped and changed me in so many ways and for that i am truely thankful. When I moved i felt as if i'd lost you forever and yet we still managed to keep contact to hold on to the friendship we both held so dear. When you passe away, once again I was at a loss for words-i couldn't believe it i wanted to call you up and hear your soothing voice tell me that everyhting was ok..but when I dialed there was no one there. I cried, yes the cheerful and emotionally strong Kirsty cried. I cried until I thought no more tears would come and then like a light in the darkness I heard you from heaven. My friend, Matt, your soothing voice was with me again telling me that everything was ok. From that moment on I knew you were ok and that some ay I'll see you again..in heaven. But for now I can only pray that God is looking down upon your family and blessing them as he has blessed me. Finally and once again I'd like to wish you a Happy 16th Birthday, although I may not be able to give you a m terialistic gift..my gift of eternal friendship still holds true...just as you have given that special gift to me. God Bless you Matt...I love you:) Kirsty xxoxxo

As many of you may be aware, tomorrow is Matt's birthday. Birthdays were always great events at the Norton household - filled with special balloons, special presents, and special trips with friends. Matt was never known for eating a great variety of food! In his early years, hot dogs (plain)were his favorite. He had a passion for pasta as he grew into his teenage years. Two of Matt's recent birthday dinners were spent at a fine Italian restaurant on the island of Aruba where the waiters, knowing of his in erest in pasta, brought samples of a wide variety of pastas from the kitchen so he could carefully choose his favorite before ordering. Matt was always happy when pasta was on the menu!! Great memories of a great kid. Thanks to all who visit and add menori s to this wonderful website. I visit it every morning before I begin my day at work. The picture are great and the memories keep Michelle and I remembering our boys when they were happiest-with their friends and family.

Like many others I visit this website often and think about last year and how much John and Matt are missed...I think about the fact that exactly one year ago I was at MUN with John and all the fun we had (him locking me and Alex in our room, wrestling on the beach, talking late at night and getting in trouble....)and I wish I could remember every detail and somehow hang onto it all. I know that I will never forget, but the small things we shared that fade with time somehow hurt just as much as the things remember clearly. And no matter how much I don't remember, I know I will miss John just as much in the years to come as I do now... Firstly thanx Mike for making this website, it's brought back a lot of precious memories:) Matt and I were together for almost 2 years and in that time we grew very close. He changed my life in so many ways and left such an impact on me his life could n ver be forgotten. That is how I will always remember Matt, with pure and undying affection. Since I moved all my friends h ve been close to my heart but Matt has always been in my thoughts:) I barely knew John but I guess that was due to the fact that I was Matt's girlfriend and getting to know older brothers was not done. But from what I know John was just as wonderful as att. - Matt, I know you're with God no wand you're watching down on us smiling. I've been back and forth to this page so many times. Last week I came back to it for the first time in a couple months. It was the first time I made it through all of the pictures, all of the comments without crying. The memories will never fade, but t e wounds have begun to heal. i hope this is true for all of you too. All of us have mourned in our own ways; some with tears, some with faces of stone . . .all of us have wept somewhere within our hearts regardless of what our faces have shown. as time goes on and we are forced to accept, we must keep our memories close, but not so close that they are forever needles in our hearts, but so that instead they are warm photo breezes through our minds. John-You told me once that you believed something await d us after death. I wish I could remember your exact words, but I know you believed it was something good, something beautiful. I know you and Matt have found that. I hope that whatever you've found allows you to go on to follow your dreams. I think o you often and miss you always.

What can I say? I met John and Matt when I was a sophmore in high school. When I first met them, I didn't realize that I was meeting two of the greatest people that I have ever had the honor of knowing. Although I didn't know him as well as I knew John Matt was a great kid. I will always remember him as John's little brother, but also as the great kid who was always smiling whenever I saw him. John was an amazing guy. He had such a love for live, and that was contagious when you spent time with him. Not a day goes by that I don't think of John, and it seems like everyday I suddenly think of some other memory of John that I had forgotten about, but am more than glad to have remembered. John and Matt were inspiring. I hope that some day I have half he love of life that they did. Wherever you guys are (and I know you are watching!), you take care. You will always be in my mind, but more importantly, you will never leave my heart.

Listing all my memories of John would take pages, but i want to mention a few that really sick out in my mind. One of them was my facination with his "Lion King" Sega game. Going over there to play it and have John help me get through the hard parts. T e "cave" in Brussels was awlays a fasination too, and of course all our memories in town! John once said that he believe that something good was set aside for you after you died. I hope that he has found this special place he talked about. I hold so many memories of John and I know they will stay with me for the rest of my life. I still think about him everyday. He was extremely loved and I know that we will carry that love through all our lives. Millie, although we didn't know each othe well as I spent my last year away from ISB, I feel like I know you because I heard so much about you and I know John loved you very much. Mr. and Mrs Norton, I wish you all the strength and courage. " A butterfly rested on my hand and I watched it and was amazed by its beauty. But, then it flew away. And though I wished it could have stayed, I was so glad to have known it for even just a little while”.

First of all, Mike, this is a great page. It's so nice for all of to be able to share our memories. I first got to know John when I came to ISB in 10th grade. On one of the first days of school we had to interview, and then present, each other to our E glish class. Ironically, one of the questions we had to ask was, "Do you believe in reincarnation?" John responded that he wasn't too sure, but it would be "cool". So I asked him what heaven would be like. He said there would be an island with a cool ouse. The ocean would be controllable so he could windsurf. There would also be a lake for windsurfing and waterskiing and a mountain for skiing. He said his friends would be there with him. I only got to know John well last year throughout endless ph yics classes. We sat next to each other in the back of the classroom and did labs together. The class was such a bore, but it wasn't really that bad because he would always find funny things to do and make time pass a bit more quickly. We'd also make th rest of the class jealous by answering all the problems we had to do way before the rest of the class! It always impressed and amazed me how smart he was! John was a great guy and there are so many memories I will always have of him. I'm sure he is in the heaven he described now. And although his friends aren't with him, I'm sure we will all meet him there and see him again some day.

This is kind of strange and wonderful at the same time. I want to thank Matt's friends who are responsible for this, he would love it. I'm John and Matt's cousin. I live in Italy, and have been for over a year now. I'd been to Brussels twice for a week each time, and John came to visit me with a friend of his, John, last March I think it was. These were my cousins who I was closest wi h. These were the cousins that I wanted to be at my wedding and vice versa. These were my cousins who didn't have divorced parents, or strange circumstances making us always being close difficult. I get selfishly sad because I wanted them in my life. It's frustrating when you think of how many terrible or at least older people exist that God doesn't take...So that's life, isn't it? You never know when anyone's time is to go. So I guess I want to say to John ( the friend of Johns that I met, and i kn w you're probably really hurting), and to all of their other friends that you just have to take with you a lesson out of this. You can't run around worrying about petty things, and wasting time. You need to cherish every moment of every day, and eachoth r. I guess that's what I try to do anyway, or know that I should try to do more. Okay, I'll stop being preachy and share some memories... -Matthew ALWAYS kicked my ass in Monopoly, and this Christmas I won, he was with me in spirit. -(if you guys were at the funeral you already heard this one) John kissed my boyfriends dad on the lips because he didn't know which way to turn his head (the Italians kiss eachother on both cheeks when they meet) -John admitted that he was kind of bummed when he took me out in Brussels that you guys all moved to the upscale places instead of that DIVE you used to go to (if you went, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about) -John and I sneaking downstairs to watch the xfiles in Brussels on a school night for him -SQUIGGLY NOODLES is all both John and Matt would eat when they were little. With butter and salt, in fact, once my grandma put pepper on it and they wouldn't eat it because of the black dots. Since I'm in Italy, I am served noodle (squigglies too) a lo . It always makes me think of them. (some of you may better know them as cork screws or fusilli). I guess I'll end things on that note. I'd just like to say to Milli, that I heard a lot about you, and John adored you. I visited there in September of 97 when you two had just gotten together, and he visited me in March when things were great. Take ca e sweetheart.

"You never know what you've got until it's gone." This quote, however, does not apply to the Norton boys because people already knew what they had. Everybody knew how special they both were. The first time I heard of John was through Millie. We ran cross country together through the first weeks of school and she would tell me about him; what a wonderful guy he was and how much she liked him. I never really had the chance to know him well, b t he was certainly a person you could admire. John was intelligent, friendly, funny, good looking, and very modest, considering his attributes. He brought so much to ISB and to everyone there. No one will forget him. Mr. and Mrs. Norton, your strength and spirit is incredible. I admire you both. Mike, this website is wonderful. This is the first time that I have seen this sight. I was very touched by all of the pictures. Thank you for doing this. I was only at ISB for one year with the Nortons. John was one of the first people that I met; he helped me to feel at home and includ d. He was someone that was constant throughout the school year. We grew even closer on our winter holiday last your. I first met Matt when we were skiing over that break. Both of these people were so special. I had the most amazing time partly because f these two. I never really spent that much time with Matt but I had the privilege of being with John a lot. There are many memories that I can think of that bring a smile to my face. I have shared many more with only John. My New Years last year was fu because of John. He is never too far from my thoughts and will not be this season. His extraordinary feel for life has moved me more then I can express. He has shown me to make as much of my life as I can while I am living. Seeing how much John did for imself and the people around him in the short time that I knew him, has shown me that I can do better in my life. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Norton for sharing your two wonderful children with me. I wish everyone a Happy Holiday and especially to all of us w o had the chance to know Matt or John.

Your words on this wonderf l website have done more for me than you could ever imagine. There is no way for me to adequately express the gratitude I am feeling to each and every one of you for giving me the gift of your memories. I always thought John and Matt were special peopl , what parent doesn't. But your words have made them even more special. I will share with you just a couple of my own favorite memories of John and Matt. Matt was my ever happy kid. He had an amazing ability to bounce back from any adversity and smile. Always cheerful, always playful, that was my Matt. John was a peacemaker. He wanted everyone else to be happy (except Matt, sometimes, but hey, they were brothers). John worked at relationships - trying always to make things perfect - between people a d in everything he attempted to do. Both of them, in their own special ways, managed to keep me happy no matter what. They were my best buddies and I miss them terribly. But I know they are safe and secure and are taking care of me now in another way. They are there for me and they are there for you. They will always be part of our lives. Thank you all for being a part of their lives.

I was so priviliged (sp?) to know him, just to know who he was, b/c when i saw him, i could feel his intelligence, his positive attitude, and his sense of humor. I could feel that with everyone at ISB. People come and go from ISB but they are never forgotten. No one is. We are all part of that campus, we are all a family, and we will always remember..... I knew both Matt and John and they were both wonderful people. I hope that they know that they will always be in our hearts. It is hard to think that someone that I graduated with is already gone but what both of them contributed to ISB and to the peopl around them will never ever be fogotten.

Mike and Lowri, you guys did an excellent job with this and for those who knew Matt, it's hard to see those pictures because it reminds you of every little thing he did, the way his jacket always fell below his hands, etc. Thank you for doing this for the boys, it's beautiful and they will never be forgotten, Emily

John was one of the chaperones on our 5th grade field trip some years ago. I remember having a huge childish crush on him... I remember teasing him about anything and everything I came up with. No matter what I did, he never got mad. I was sorry to hea about John and Matt's death.

Mike this was really thoughtful. I'm really proud of the way you handle this. I'm the type of person to just try and forget because it hurts to much but you proved me wrong. Matt was pretty darn cool. He even signed that yearbook you got me during the sum er. There's lots of things I'll remember about Matt. He was a special guy with a great future ahead of him and he didn't deserve what happened to him and his brother. This is one of the main things that make me angry so I'll stop before I break the comput r or something. Mrs. Norton, I'm really sorry that I didn't keep in touch with Matt. Maybe it would have hurt more but it would have been worth it. It makes me think that I should keep in touch with my old friends more often than I do. And I promise everybody that I will ---------------------Josh-----------------------

I hardly had time to get to know Matt. I met him during Fiddler on the roof and other events of theatre after that. He was a Wizz with the lighting. I was always totally amazed by his knowledege about the technical side of theatre. Here I am an 18 y ar old and Matt only 14 and knew already so much. He took as much out of life as he could. I sometimes felt quite guilty because he was getting so much out of life and he made me realize that I should get more than i did out of life. He always had as m ch fun as he could. He was always so sweet. He was aspirit lifter and I always thought he was very mature for his age when he wanted to be. During the short time we knew each other even though he was 4 years younger I had a great time with him and got to know him as much as one can in three weeks. He will be a great loss to everyone, I just wish I could have got to know him better.

I was one of the doctors who took care of Matthew at the hospital in Maine. I didn't know him but he sounds like he was a good dude. He must have been a great guy to have a friend dedicated enough to set up a site like this in his honor.

There isn't really much one can say. the first time i met john was in 5th grade. i had just come to isb and we were on a trip to Trier germany. John and some othe high schoolers were asked to come on the trio to assist the teachers. from what i rememb r john was very nice and he always made us laugh. I remember that one of the students through his hat in the pond and he had to go in and get it. Although he was angry he still made a joke about it and didn't really stress about it. I and many other student here know that these two boys will be greatly missed. R.I.P john and matt we miss and love you!!!!!!

Matt and I shared science and history classes, he was the smart one, who always got what we were talking about, I was the one who more or less did nothing more than enjoy myself in the presence of good friends like Matt. Matt also enjoyed himself in clas and it was probably me, Dave and Eric that caused his once in a while screw-ups in science class (sorry about that Mrs. Norton). Science class was the one time of the day that most of Matt's close friends found themselves together to more or less enjoy hemselves and do fun work. Matt sat directly in front of me and we too regularly ended the class in fun and childish spitball wars.

I'm sitting here listening to a few good friends of mine arguing, thinking about how few people really appreciate those they adore before they're gone. Treasure all your experiences; those real and imagined. May John and Matt rest in peace; let all those who knew them treasure their memories always. Thanks to Mike for putting this site up; you're a true friend.

Mike, what a wonderful idea - I will check this site frequently. I, of course, have tons of pictures - in fact, some of the best are with Jackie Burch, Millie's (John's girlfriend)Mom, or maybe with Mr.Hayward by now - they are using them for the memoria service - I'm sure you could have access to them but I do want them back eventually - I would have no idea how to get them onto the computer - scan I suppose, but I don't have a scanner. Anyway, Dick Hall (Mr., to you!) told me about this web site so wo d must be getting out. I have received many letters from friends of John's and Matt's - including your own lovely letter - and it's so nice to read about all the memories other kids have - I hope this web site generates more. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you. Thanks, Michelle Norton
