Note: (11/10/00)

Wow. That was some really serious amount of research you guys did for the first debate! I really enjoyed listening to your debate! Although I did feel like some of you could have prepared better, it was nice to know that you are very independent. I was worried that you might not be able to do this kind of very challenging work without my specific directions, but all I did for preparing the debate was to let you see how you can make your reasons stronger by doing the research and using good supports, and how to structure the debate. Really, It's 2:06 pm right now, and I am still very excited :) I am sooooo looking forward to the next 2 debates! And I feel very happy to have a great class like y'all!

Note: (11/17/00)

I'm writing this at 1:10 on Friday right after the debate about the incurable desease and telling the patients about it. It was really interesting, and I learned a lot. Like Shoko said, before this debate, I couldn't understand why people wouldn't want to know, but I now kind of see their points too. Now I know that some people can't handle it so they might kill themselves. Very interesting, because it's very different from what I'd want to do about my life. Then again there are good points about knowing. Thank you all for all your hardwork, and again, I'm very happy to have students like you! Good luck to the next groups...

Answers for the assignment: (11/10/00)

We didn't get to check the answers for the homework. It was page 70, and page 110, I believe. So here it is.

P. 70: Sample refutations - (1) That's not always true. They will waste time shopping and talking with their friends. (2) The cost is not significant. Schools are only half a day for 2 Saturdays a month. (3) That is not always true. Many students would go to cram schools on Saturday. (4) That's not true! Teachers would just go to movies and not do work! (<- not me! I'd work! maybe)

P. 110: (1) G, I, B, H, N, M, O, C, K, L, A, F, D, I, E (2) G, I, D, B, J, F, I, N, Q, E, R, P, M, S, O, A, H, K, C
