There were 141 Presidential Scholars--two from each state, as well as 15 at large scholars, 20 scholars in the arts and representatives of Americans Abroad, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C.
Here are pictures of just a few scholars--mostly those I "hung out" with during the week (along with explanatory captions). I've tried to get a variety of photos, but it's impossible to include everyone. It's nothing personal against those not pictured--just a limit of web space and bandwidth!
With that formality out of the way, here we are:

After the Medallion Ceremony--with Anne Blackfield (left) and Ali Sulzer (middle). The things hanging around our necks are the infamous medallions! |
(From left): Sarah Nichols, me (Andy Farke) and Mindy Klenoff. We're waiting patiently for the talent show. We put on a skit, which largely went over (or is that under?) everyone's heads. I guess you just had to be there. . . | ![]() |

Here's a group of us on the Potomac River! Back (from left): Jeff Davidson, Steve Davis, Ali Sulzer and Mindy Klenoff. Front: Laurel Eckhouse, Andy Farke, Anne Blackfield and John May. |
Another post-Medallion Ceremony picture. At left is Jose Coleman, Presidential Scholar from Puerto Rico. Jose and fellow Puerto Rican Ali Sulzer taught me more about Puerto Rico than I'd ever thought was possible to learn in six days! | ![]() |

Here's a snapshot from "The Fourth Floor Lounge" in Flather Hall at the Catholic University of America. Now that's a string of prepositions! (From left): Sarah Nichols, Ali Sulzer and Anne Blackfield. The pair of legs at extreme left is unidentified, although I believe they belong to Stef Schoenmackers. |
Some of my fellow "groupies." They are (back): Marissa Raymond and Louis Rivera; middle (from left): Sarah Nichols, Mindy Klenoff and Daniel Haspel; and (front) Ali Sulzer. | ![]() |
