  • For convenience, we use a set of symbols to rewrite our statements.

    Disjunction... Or ...
    HypotheticalIf ... then ...

  • So the statement

    Either the sun is shining or the birds are singing

    Would be written as

    SS BS

  • One of the beauties of this notation is that symbols can be combined. For example,

    SS (BS T)

    Which should be read aloud as

    If SS then both BS and not-T

  • For better or worse, this means that arguments can appear a little intimidating.
