  • Disjunctive Syllogisms
    1. either ... or ... statements are disjunctions
    2. A syllogism that contains a disjunction is a disjunctive syllogism
    3. For example,
      Either the sun is shining or the birds are singing
      The sun is not shining
      Therefore, the birds are singing

  • Hypothetical Syllogisms
    1. if ... then ... statements are hypothetical
    2. A syllogism that contains a hypothetical is a hypothetical syllogism
    3. For example,
      If the sun is shining then the birds are singing
      The sun is in fact shining
      Therefore, the birds must be singing
