Honesty is the most important virtue of all. Why? Because if what you’re saying is not the truth, nothing else matters. It makes no difference whether what you’re saying sounds good, even wonderful, even perfect. If it is not true, it will not come to pass, therefore it is unreal, therefore it is a lie. Nice lies are just as phony as nasty lies. They are deceptive, incredibly sinful, and condemned by Jesus Christ far more often than was sexual immorality, laziness, or even murder.

Honesty is even more important than love! Why? Because if the love is not real love, then it is not love at all, but rather, it is deception disguised as love, which is probably even more vile a sin that a fake conversion to win an election. Honesty is a part of love, the most important part, the starting point of love. If the love is not honest, it is a lie.

How do I know this? Am I so smart? No. Try reading the Gospels of Mark, Matthew, and Luke. I say this stuff because Jesus Christ said it (in different language) first. If you don’t believe him either, at least be honest enough to admit it.

Does this mean that there is absolutely never any situation where a lie might be the lesser of two evils? I didn’t say that, and I don’t think Jesus did either, although I’m not really sure about the latter. Here’s a good rule to follow: The next time you think that a little "white" (racist expression) lie might be justified, write a ten page single spaced essay justifying why your lie will bring about more good than evil in the long run, send it to at least three people to review, and if you are absolutely sure after that, then pray about it for ten minutes, and you’re still sure after that, then maybe the lie might be justified, but don’t count on it. So next time you feel like calling in sick for work when you’re not sick, just go to work, that’s far less time consuming than writing a ten page essay!

Might a lie be morally justified one time in a million? Likely so, but one out of a million is not the same percentage as one out of two, which is far closer to the actual percentage of lies practiced in modern society. In the next life sometimes called the Kingdom of God, nothing remains hidden. I didn’t make that up either.
