So what's planned ...?
Eventually, I want to add a Genealogy section to the site. Receipt of numerous e-mail requests has indicated that it would be highly desirable. It will happen but I want to complete the site renovation before I add too much more. I have a dream that one day there will be an online database where people can find out where they fit into the great family of McAulifes. Setting one up would require a skill far greater than I possess, so if you know anyone who could help ...
...and what's new?
With a bit of time while on holiday, I've been able to make a few changes. These include:
15 January 2008 Facebook links, a new Discussion Forum and a Webmaster's Blog were added. McAuliffes are obviously not very loquacious because the posts are not coming!
During January renovated most of the old pages were renovated and optimised for best viewing in 1024 x 768 resolution. I hope to complete the remainder soon.
The Clan Legends have been re-designed and set up on my new ad-free site. It will be a while before I complete the new site but please do check out the legends.
10 February. The Clan Rally pages have been renovated and moved to the new site.
Keep looking in - there's more to come!

"Far beyond the bountiful Allo,

of the stately trees,

noble MacAuliffe"
O'Heeran, Irish poet, c.1400
Who are the MacAuliffes and where was their 'land of great prosperity'? In the tradition of my ancestors I invite you to make yourself comfortable and listen to some Irish music while I tell you their story.
My tale begins with the first human settlement of Ireland and the arrival of the various peoples who contributed to the development of Irish culture ...

*McAwly and McAuly can also be variants of MacAuley, a different Irish sept.

There may be other variations not listed here. The webmaster would be keen to hear from anyone who has or knows of a different spelling of the name.
This replaces the 'What's New' part of the page that has been a feature here for some years. I thought that as well as telling you what changes have been made to the site it might be helpful to tell you what's planned. It also gives me a place where I can quickly add a bit of news or make a request of my own if I need information.
Later this year (2008) this site will be ten years old. It was created at a time when screen resolutions were smaller than they are generally set at on modern computers. The site was designed for viewing in 800 x 600 resolution. Many of the pages are still unchanged and don't look their best in a larger size. Making changes takes time but I plan to work through all the pages over the next few weeks/months to update them. Please bear with me while I do that. And a request - if you come across anything to do with McAuliffe history that you don't see here I'd be delighted if you'd let me know about it.
