 NEW KEY CLUB NEWS
ON A SIDE NOTE: There are some new editions to Ike's weekly email. You will find a section with Ike's Top 5 Countdown (The top 5 music hits in KCI), Ike's sleaze (Interesting news from KCI or the world), and Ike's movie pick of the week.

New Caring: Our Way of Life Video

The Communications and Marketing committee is producing a new promotional video for Key Club International, which will update the OLD Caring…Our Way of Life video that was produced a couple years ago. We feel that the organization deserves a good video for them to promote the ideas of Key Club International, as well as help the clubs get more people interested in joining the world's largest high school service organization.

About 2 weeks ago Key Club began shooting this video with pieces from the surrounding clubs in the Indianapolis area. The main concern was to make sure we had a very diverse video, with an up-beat appeal similar to those produced by MTV (Music Television). It will be produced in the same way
as last year's Major Emphasis Video, and should be a great video. We have chosen to unveil the video at International Convention, and should be sent to the clubs within the months following International Convention.

New Convention Video to HIT your mailbox
In the middle of winter, International President Pettus Randall and Florida District Governor Derek Pettigrew traveled to Orlando, Florida to shoot the 2000 Key Club International Call to Convention Video. Reports from the wire state this video will be a little wild, and filled with the much-needed comedy to draw anyone to International Convention.
Information on all the details of the International Convention will be available very soon, but information about how much it will cost are already out. As of now, it is US $90 to register for this momentous convention. Please make sure that you register as soon as possible, so that you are not left out of this amazing Key Club International Convention. Be checking you mailbox and go to District Convention to see the video!

This week's newest edition will be examining the Top Music Hits of Key Club International. I will countdown the top musical acts and send you to links where you can check out this artist

Anna and the King: an amazing picture about the love Anna (played by Jodie Foster) has for the King of Siam (played by Chow Yun-Fat) and the children she is hired to teach. December 13, 1999 Greetings members of the Ohio District Board, New England District Board, and members, Hello and welcome to an official email from Key Club International Trustee, Isaac D. Casados WHAT'S NEW with ME? Well, Hello everyone. It is good to be back in the swing of things. Tuesday, December 7, 1999 was an awesome day, and I would like to thank all of you and the warm wishes that you sent. You were all very kind to share this day with me. Well, on a side note, if I talk to you in the mean time, please know that I have a BIG case of Influenza (A very strong case) and have been coughing my lungs out. But, I am resting and trying to defeat it. If you have any ideas on how to kick this VIRUS, please do tell. NEW KEY CLUB News GOT Salt? Are you excited about eliminating IDD once and for all? Well, GOT SALT is a new program to Key Club International, and could help you and your district raise tons of money for IDD. What do I do? Well, that's simple. You find a jar (or anything that has an opening, and could be used to carry money), attach the GOT SALT label and begin raising money. The idea is for you to carry the jar with the label everywhere with you, and make everyone you encounter contribute to IDD. Where do I take the jar? Well, anywhere you like. To the store, church, Kiwanis meeting, Key club meeting, school, or anywhere where you think you can make money for IDD. The more places you take the jar, the more money you can make. It is that simple! What do I do with the money that I raised for IDD? Please make sure that you submit all your money to the district so your districts can be accounted for the money raised. Please remember to remind your clubs that all checks must have IDD or Iodine Deficiency Disorder written on the check and have a club name on the check. This helps in eliminating confusion and helps the districts process the money quicker. ON A SIDE NOTE: I would like to congratulate the Ohio District for meeting their IDD goal for this year. Way to go guys. You are guys are doing an awesome job. Continue working, and let's not stop raising money until IDD has been eliminated. Good or bad, The Key Club International PROPOSED Dues Increase? I would like to thank those of you who voiced your opinion about the proposed dues increase. It is good to see the pros and cons of this idea, because it is you that will determine whether this will go into effect. Please understand that this is your organization and we must look into the best interests of our members. I know that many of you have stated that a dues increase of any kind would hurt our organization, but a majority was open to some ideas. Before the January Board Meeting, I would like to go to the table with what the Ohio and New England Districts feel about the idea. How could we effectively make this a better organization for our members? What ideas do you have to raise money to cover expenses (mailing the Keynoter to members' homes, etc.…)? If you were an International Board Member, what would you do to make Key Club International a stronger organization for its members, with the limited budget we currently have? Should we forget about this idea, and move onto something else? - PLEASE ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DID NOT SEE THIS IN THE LAST ISSUE, I have kept it HERE for you. In Natchitoches, Louisiana, on the weekend of January 27-30, 2000, the Key Club International Board will be discussing a possible dues increase for Key Club International. The purpose of this proposed dues increase is to make KCI a stronger organization and offer our members a better organization with more opportunities. It takes a considerable amount of money to keep an organization like Key Club International operating; thus, with a few extra dues dollars KCI can be an organization for the member, by the member, and membership involved. Please understand that this is not scheduled to take place anytime soon, but it will help us (the Key Club International Board) lay the foundation in order for the dues option to take effect effectively and in the best interest of our members. Below are the PROPOSED options that I need your help in deciding the best options for KCI. PLEASE pick the option that you would like, or select any combination that you would like. Please answer the questions following the proposed initiatives. INITIATIVE 1: Two-dollar dues increase (US 2.00) to provide more member, club, and district services. Upgrade the Key Club International Site, Upgrade the KCI membership card (Credit Card Format, and mailing the cards to member's homes), Upgrade the KEYNOTER Magazine (mail to member's homes), Increase district support services (Add training for KCI District Secretaries), and Increase Club Leadership development programs (All Leadership coordinator to the staff, and Increase KC Weekends). - COST ABOUT US$2.00 per member INITIATIVE 2: One-dollar dues increase (US 1.00) to increase the Youth Opportunities Fund for members and clubs. Scholarship Fund for MEMBER college scholarships, Opportunities Fund for CLUB grants, and Liability Insurance. - COST ABOUT US$1.00 per member INITIATIVE 3: One-dollar dues increase (US 1.00) to donate to acharitable cause A donation to a non-profit organization (Worldwide Service Project, UNICEF, March of Dimes, Children's Miracle Network, etc.) would be made by Key Club International. - COST ABOUT US$1.00 per member As you can see, the DUES increase could help our organization bring some new programs to our members. I would like to know what you think. Is a dues increase bad for Key Club International? Which initiative do you feel most comfortable in? How much is a reasonable dues increase? Any concerns of comments about this issue? PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR ANSWERS TO ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, AND UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS NO DUES INCREASE THIS YEAR. WE WANT YOUR INPUT BEFORE WE MAKE THIS DECISION. Newsletters to hit your mailbox soon That's right! My newsletters are on the way. Hello and welcome to an official email from Key Club International Trustee, Isaac D. Casados

WHAT'S NEW with ME?

Wow! Have these months flown by. God it felt as though Halloween was just here, and I was celebrating the Thanksgiving holidays with my family.

Thing have been very busy, and I know many of you may have wondered where I have been and why things have not been coming. Well, here is the answer. About a few weeks ago, my computer was infected with a nice COMPUTER VIRUS that ate through everything. All my Key Club files were lost, and I had to buy a brand new computer. I was a little upset about the whole thing, but I am back in action, and will have all the information you "guys and girls" need ASAP.

ON A SIDE NOTE:
I am gearing up to turn the BIG 18! Oh God, I am getting OLD! Tuesday, December 7, 1999, will mark a new episode in my life, and should be awesome. I am looking forward to joining the LEGAL adults in the world, and make something of myself.

WEEKLY EMAIL – Key Club International

Isaac D. Casados, Trustee

October 7, 1999 Greetings members of the Ohio District board, New England District board, and others:

Hello and welcome to the seventh (7th) weekly email of your term.

Well, September is finally gone, and October will be making its final hurrah for the last time this century. Key Clubbers are gearing up for what should be the peak of IDD fund raising; thus, resulting in us being responsible for making IDD a thing of the past. From IDD, to CMN, to the MEP, etc. we will strive to continue to make this world a safer place for you and I; futhermore, creating a better world for children all of origins, countries, and backgrounds. I would like to encourage you to continue working hard, and ask that you continue to make Key Club International the world’s largest high school organization. Good LUCK and much thanks to you for making Key Club International who we are.

What’s new with me?

Well, for all of you in the Ohio district, I just returned from one of the best experiences of my life. Over the past weekend, I attended the Ohio District board meeting, Fall Training conference, was treated to Cedar Point (the world’s #1 amusement park), and met numerous members from one of the greatest districts in Key Club International who are striving to make their district a better place for their state, cities, and people.

NEW KEY CLUB NEWS

Listed below is some new information I think you should be aware of. Please read it carefully. Ohio District Visit a Blast

This weekend’s visit to the mighty Ohio district has to be the best thing that has happened to me since being elected to my term as a Key Club International trustee. The board was phenomenal and I had so much fun hanging’ out with them during the couple of days I was in their state. Friday included the OCKCI Board meeting which lasted until 1 am; thus, helpful for work to be completed in the up-coming year. Saturday kicked off the Fall Training Conference, which was I had to say very well planned and excited many members. Justin and I were dressed up in drag this day due to a major loss in the “battle of the sexes” money competition (I was a Bahama mama and Justin was trailer trash) with a major amount of money being raised for IDD and CMN. Saturday evening and Sunday, proved to be even better with a visit to Kasey’s house (Ohio Lt. Gov.) and Cedar Point. I would like to thank the entire board for making my visit so enjoyable.
To Justin, Megan, Julie, Jen, Sara, Kasey and all the rest of you. I can truly say that I have the greatest districts in all of Key Club International.

Also at this time, in Washington, five middle level and five high school youth will be named national honorees, each receiving an additional $5,000, a gold medallion, and a crystal trophy for his or her high school or youth organization. Additional middle level and high school youth in each state receive bronze medallions as distinguished finalists, or Certificates of Youth.

Backstreet Boys Team up to promote Service

Jive record’s multi-platinum recording artists, the Backstreet Boys, are teaming up to congratulate people who perform awesome amounts of service and are making a difference in the community.
This new and exciting program will offer members of the Key Club International family an opportunity to perform service and be congratulated for doing it.
The Larger Than Life Awards will recognize 36 young people, nine to 20 years old, who are improving their communities through volunteer service to others or the environment. Each of the 36 award winners will receive four tickets to see the Backstreet Boys in concert, an opportunity to meet the Backstreet Boys backstage, an awards certificate, and $2,000 to fund a project for National Youth Service Day 2000. Two grand prize winners will be selected from the initial 36 winners to receive $10,000 for their volunteer organizations.
The Larger Than Life Award winners will be announced starting September 14, 1999, at various cities across the United States during the Backstreet Boys Into the Millennium Tour.
To apply, call Theo Abbott at (202) 296-2992, ext. 23. The applications are also available on-line at www.servenet.org/awards. CONGRATULATIONS: Our own Key Club International Trustee Angie Galloway is one winner of this program. She and a few of her friends will be heading off to see the Backstreet Boys and meet them in an up-coming concert.
$2,000 will also be contributed to her program, and will allow her to perform service in her community. Congratulations Angie!

Audio Web-cast

Three (3) audio web casts are completed and I will be sending them to you this week. One will come each day and will be on the following issues:

  • 1) Trick or Treat for UNICEF
  • 2) Backstreet Boys promo
  • 3) The One Million penny drive.

When each of this audio casts is sent, it will be placed in a WINZIP format. This program will allow me to cut down the amount of space each takes up, and make for an easier downloading time.
To access this audio feed you will need Win ZIP (copyright Microsoft), and can access this download site by clicking on: http://www.winzip.com and accessing their site. This program is free, and will take about 10 minutes to download depending on your connection.
Please feel free to send these audio cast to as many people as you need (I would like to just hear where it is going), and what other subjects I should do a PROMO for.

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF

It’s time to dress up and “trick-or-treat for IDD.” As a major sponsor of this year’s activities, Key Club members from all over the international organization will be “trick-or-treating” for a good cause. Last year, Key Club members helped raise ten of thousands of dollars, and will continue to do so this year. With your help, we can make this one of the biggest money making events in the history of Key Club International.
To order your "Trick-or-Treat" promotional kit and collection boxes, visit the US Committee for UNICEF on-line order form or call 800-252-KIDS, ext. IDD,
How to "Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF" in five easy steps:

  • 1. Order your free educational materials and orange collection boxes by calling our special hotline, 800-252-KIDS, ext. IDD, or order on-line at www.unicefusa.org/trickortreat/order.html.
  • 2. During the month of October, put up your “Trick-or-Treat for IDD” poster in a visible place, and encourage students to get involved in the effort of raising money.
  • 3. Assist students as they organize a fund-raising event or campaign. Distribute the "Trick-or-Treat" safety tips, and have a quiz to make sure the kids always know that their safety comes first. Be sure they are aware that their efforts are helping to eliminate IDD, securing a brighter future for children throughout the world.
  • 4. Collect and count the proceeds to be donated to the "Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF" program, the Kiwanis/UNICEF global partnership to eliminate IDD.
  • 5. To make sure your contribution to "Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF" goes toward the elimination of IDD, please make your check or money order out to: Kiwanis International Foundation.
