This pine in Isaiah 60 is the gorgeous Cilician fir. It grows quite tall and is a striking tree of the fir family. Its needles are gray-green in color and flash like silver in sunlight. Pines take their name from the Latin pinus, a raft, as the wood was easy to cut and was used by primitive tribes for boats. When the cone of this pine is cut lengthwise the surface markings resemble the form of a hand. There is a legend that says it is the hand of Christ and that the tree sheltered Mary, his mother, when she hid her family from Herod's soldiers.
Isaiah 60:13 (KJV) The glory of Lebanon shall come unto thee, the fir tree, the pine tree, and the box together, to beautify the place of my sanctuary; and I will make the place of my feet glorious.
