The oral presentation for Indonesian
(Presentasi lisan)
This can be a group presentation provided all participants make an equal
contribution in preparation and performance. You are advised to
select a topic which your Indonesian language ability and experience so far equips you to handle without too much extra research. The lecturer is more interested in a sample of your current spoken Indonesian than the depth of detail or even the fancy visual aids you may use. If posters, pictures, slides or music samples or
other realia are useful to your talk - they help you and your listeners
focus on what you have to say, go ahead. The amount of preparation you do (criterion 6) will count but ultimately the other criteria (1 - 5) below must count more.
Hint: for both your essay and your oral presentation - which may not be on exactly the same topic but may be related if you like - don't tackle topics so complex for you that it involves lots of dictionary use - which itself can produce even more 'off-the-track' language. You don't have to be deadly serious in topic or delivery - have fun with it. Don't be afraid to come and ask for assistance or ideas but not to have the whole thing edited and done for you.
Criteria for assessment of oral presentation
1. Fluency,intonation, stress
eg production of Indonesian language flows without
unnatural pauses, has a melody like that of Indonesian
native speakers, is emphasized on the right syllables
and on end of Predicate; not overly reliant on notes
2. Pronunciation
eg vowels and vowel-blends (diphthongs, eg au )
are correctly enunciated and Indonesian consonant
sounds correctly articulated
3. Grammatical correctness
eg the structure of sentences, word order, does not confuse
verbs with nouns eg using membantu not pembantu as
appropriate
4. Variation in sentence patterns and word choice
eg , put across in an interesting manner, includes a few
questions in the presentation even if only to him/herself,
or exclamations, or Pred - Subj, not 100% SVO.
5. Cogent informative content clearly conveyed
The subject-matter of the talk is clear and the `text' of
the talk is sequenced and linked
6. Preparation, aids, props etc
makes good use of props to convey meaning
On each criterion above you will receive a rating on a scale of 0- - - - -
1- - - - - 2 - - - - - 3- - - - -4 which is converted into a mark out of 20. The oral presentation is worth 20%. The lecturer and tutor will also make notes during your presentation. You may see their notes and marks awarded to you after all oral presentations are done. The whole idea is feedback to you about your Indonesian language proficiency, not just an assessment exercise.
