Craft Name & Numerology

The first question people usually ask is why they need a craft name? Well... to be completely honest, you don't have to have one. You don't have to do anything you don't want to. The purpose of the craft name is just for you to identify yourself to whoever you chose. I rather like having a craft name because it gives me a chance to pick a name that truly identifies me, instead of the name my mother picked before I was even born. The craft name should represent who you REALLY are. The craft name is a sacred name that only you and your higher power should know, or if you are a part of a coven it is okay for your coven members to know it also. Some witches (including myself) choose a craft name for usage with a coven and then another private craft name for themselves that no one knows.

The practice of numerology is used when finding one’s craft name…. The first step in the process is to find out your birth number. This is done by adding up the numbers in your numerical birthday. For example, if you were born on October 16,1979 your numerical birthday would be 10/16/1979. You would need to add together each of these numbers individually to reduce the number into a 2 digit number. Then add those two number together to reduce to a 1 digit number. This number is your birth number.

1+0+1+6+1+9+7+9= 34 ~ 3+4= 7

The next step would be to decide on a name you would like to use. You would then test the spelling against letter numerology using the following chart, which is one of the most popular methods.

So, If I wanted to use the name "Puppy" as my craft name I would need to test it against the numerology chart.

Puppy = 7+3+7+7+7= 31 ~ 3+1= 4

Since 4 does not equal my birth number which is 7 ~ I would need to find another way to spell it if this was the name that I wanted to use. I might try using "Puppie"

Puppie = 7+3+7+7+9+5 = 38 3+8= 11 ~ 1+1=2

This also would not work, so I would have to get a little more creative. I might try "Puppye", "Puppiy", "Pupie", "Puppe" "Phuppy", "Phuppie", "Pupee" After doing all this work and still not find a number that would fit, I might decide that maybe Puppy just isn’t meant to be my craft name, so I would pick something else and try it.

DAWHG = 4+1+5+8+7= 25 ~ 2+5= 7

Since Dawhg works…. Bingo… I have found my craft name if I want to use it.

(PS -- Neither Puppy or Dog or any strange spelling of either is my craft name. My craft name is non-canine related. And no, I am not going to tell you what it is.)
