The Story of My Life

  Holding out a thankless hand
  For the millionth time
Not a smile or a friendly face
  Anywhere I find
  Moving to another task
Carry more than I can hold
  Too many promises to keep
  But I'll never fold

  There's too much to do
  Got no time for fun
  Got everybody's jobs to do
  With all my own undone

  Giving all I have
  Heart open much too wide
Need to find some refuge now
But there's no place to hide
  No time for myself
  But I can't deny
That's the flow when you can't say no
But that's the story of my life

  Picking up the pieces
  A million pieces or more
Who knows why I trust so much
Or what I do it for?
  Broken expectations
  But never broken hearted
Give me the chance to trust again
I'll be right back where I started

  Got so much to give
  I give it all away
When will I have nothing left
  I'm sure I'll know someday

  Once again I'm left
  With the drain and drudge
Will I always take the fall?
  Time will be the judge
  Once again a fool
  Of my own design
I've got to learn or keep getting burned
But that's the story of my life

  Standing on the cliff edge
  Staring at the sun
  Sitting on the barrel
  Of a loaded gun
I walked myself to the cliff edge
I chose to stop and stare
Filled the chambers of the gun myself
  And aimed it you-know-where

  Plowing through the maelstrom
  No place to hide
Looking for a place to rest
  But I'm always self-denied
  Maybe now the lesson learned
Is to master my own soul
  No one's gonna rescue me
  It's time to take control

Standing at the fork I see
  A million ways to go
Which way is the best of all
  How can anyone know?
  Overwhelmed by options
  Don't know what to choose
Any road that I might pick
  Could be win or lose

  Got to move ahead
  Can't turn back now
Got nothing to go back to
  And I wouldn't know how

  So many miles I've been
Still need to go so far
Who know where these roads will go
Or where the best roads are
  Got to move ahead
  But I can't decide
I don't know which way to go
  But that's the story...
  But that's the story...
That's the story of my life
