The lions may grow weak and hungry,
but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
Psalm 34:10 (NIV)
The young lions do lack and suffer hunger;
But they who seek the LORD shall not be in want of any good thing.
Psalm 34:10 (NASU)
I can't imagine any animal more powerful or more capable of meeting it's own needs and those of it's young than a lion. As strong and powerful as lions may be they are at times incapable of providing food for their young and as a result they experience hunger. Even though a lion, the most powerful animal I can imagine can fail - God is NEVER incapable of meeting my needs!! Not my 'wants' but my true 'needs'... which teaches me a few powerful truths.. if God doesn't allow something, no matter how badly I want it, it may not be what I really need or what's best for me. This promise is directed toward those who seek the Lord... sometimes my overwhelming focus becomes the 'thing' I want and I may be praying very fervently about it but what I need to learn constantly is that the greater need is not to focus on the 'thing(s)' I desire but always to focus on seeking God. When I do that.. no matter what the answer to my prayer or desire is I am able to see God for who he is, my heart is at peace and I can trust and surrender to the knowledge that whatever God allows in my life is what I really need.
