A scathing indictment from God directed at an eighteen year-old King who had only reigned for three months! Is God being unfair or harsh? No... 2 Kings 24:9 records that Jehoiakim's crime was not doing anything to eliminate from Judah the 'cancer' of false religion, apostasy and a spirit of compromise. God is a passionate about our worship and our obedience to him... it is his expectation that his people and even more so his leaders have a heart to root out all that is not pleasing to God... and God expects us to imitate his heart in this.
