Specifics for Competitions at the Reigonal 3 Conference
Flight Challenge (LEVEL I):
- 1. As stated in the TSA Competitive events guidelines each participant must bring a drawing along of their glider to the competition. We are asking that they bring a copy along also. This way they will have one to work from and one for the judge to evaluate.
- 2. We will provide the balsa wood, clay, glue, and work area for this competition. We would ask that each school furnish the tools that they will need to build this glider.
Control Technology:
- 1. If you have a team entering this event you will need to bring along a Leg. Technics II kit(1090 kits or better}. Students must also bring a computer, program, and power strip/power cord.
Electronic Challenge:
- 1.Students will need to bring an E.K.I. (Mr. Circuit I or II Lab) and power strip/ power cord.
Engineering Graphic Analysis:
- Each participant need to bring their drafting tools and drawing board to the conference.
Structural Engineering: (LEVEL I - BRIDGE and LEVEL II - BRIDGE)
- Your students will need to build their bridge/tower and drawing with them to the conference. They will be inspected in the morning and each student will get to break them in the afternoon.
- The specification for the LEVEL I BRIDGE will be as follows:
- SPAN 13".
- All other specs are listed in the event book
- The specification for the LEVEL II BRIDGE will be as
follows:
- SPAN 16" for a BRIDGE with superstructure above and/or below the roadbed.

Radio Control Transportation:
- A radio frequency form must be filled out and return to Rich Beyer if your team is going to compete. He needs these returned to him by February 15th.
Technology Writing Challenge and Technical Research and Report Writing:
- Each student will research the theme topic in advanced and bring these sources and information with them to the conference.
- At the conference an assigned sub topic from this theme will be what the student will have to write about.
- Topics for this competitive event are as follows:
- Level I, ”Impacts of television upon society, the economy, and the environment” Sub-topics include
- (1) Violence in schools,
- (2) Cost,
- (3)Bio-Technical,
- (4) Energy,
- (5) Advertizement, and
- (6) Education
- Level II, “Impacts of television upon society, the economy, and the environment” Sub-topics include
- (1) Violence in schools,
- (2) Cost,
- (3) Bio-Technical,
- (4) Energy,
- (5) Advertizement, and
- (6) Education
Prepared Speech and Prepared Presentation:
The topic for this event is:
- LEVEL I: “TSA...Transcending the Limits of Imagination”
- LEVEL II: “TSA...Transcending the Limits of Imagination
Promotional Graphics:
- The topic for this event is: "... And the Journey Begins”
Desktop Publishing:
Each student will need to bring the following
tools:
- Computer
- printer
- power strip/power cord
- paper.
- All other
specs are listed in the event book.
- This can be an AM or PM event.
Level of competition:
Just a reminder that you need to have a chapter affiliation in order to compete. You must have a separate affiliation for each level for the other grade
levels.
- Level I - 6, 7, 8, & (9)
- Level II - (9), 10, 11, & 12
We ask that you make sure that your students coming be registered in
both a morning and afternoon event and not just in display events. We find that this
way the conference runs much smoother. You will notice that we have a filler
listed as seminar that some students may sign up to take part in.
The cost this
year for our regional conference will be $10.00 per student and $6.00 per advisor
attending the conference. Please pay this to us no later than the day of the
conference. If you write a check, make it out to TSA, Region 3.
