Burg Stahleck was built to collect tolls from on top of the cliffs of Binger Loch. Unfortuneatly, the castle was too remote and couldn't be used to collect them. The goverment sold the beautiful castle to the Staufer family dynasty. The Staufers used Burg Stahleck to hold a fairy tale wedding for the Princess Anges and the prince of the Guelpgic family, Henry. The marriage of Anges and Henry brought together the power of the two mightiest principalities in Germany. It also ended the feud between the two families. In 1689 the French destroyed the castle. Finally, in 1929 Burg Stahleck was rebuilt to it's former glory and became one of the finest youth hostels in Germany.
