Why? O-kay!
IMMY AWARDS
2000
Welcome to the IMMY AWARDS
2000!
This will be the fourth IMMY AWARDS ceremony held for the
Pagan Lake Community. If you haven't read their herstory
, please take a
moment and do so now.
There are a few changes in
the process this year, and in the interest of full disclosure, I'm listing them
here along with pre-existing operating procedure.
- The Award
Categories - This year we will be using only categories that have
been created during previous balloting. There are several reasons for this.
During the last Awards, numerous category submissions were created that
applied to only a single nominee. The Ceremony has been very lengthy in the
past, and in the interest of curbing the timeframe a bit, it seems wisest to
restrict the categories to those already created. The categories will be on
the nominating ballot.
- Nominations
- The nominating ballot
will be posted with the deadline information. The link to the nomination
ballot can be found at the bottom of this page. You must complete and
submit your nominating form by the posted deadline. In the interest of
manageability and brevity, only the top five nominees (the five people with
the most nominations in any given category) will appear on the final voting
ballot. The only exception to this will be a tie involving multiple
nominations for each person, in which case both will appear on the
ballot. Please reread the herstory of the IMMYs if you're not yet
clear on their intent. Because I feel so strongly about their purpose, ie.
they are for our enjoyment, if I determine that a nomination
has been submitted in cruelty or for the express purpose of humiliating a
person, I WILL disregard that nomination
. That may be
autocratic, but I would like to see the integrity of purpose preserved.
-- I'm sorry if you didn't hear about the balloting until it was
too late. My resources are limited and I depend on my fellow Lakers to
spread the news about it's availability.
- The Voting
- The ballot will be compiled from
the nominations received during the the nomination phase. Once the
information is compiled the ballot will be posted. Ballot submissions
will also have a deadline. Bear in mind, that as part of your ballot I
receive an IP address. I do NOT track down the IP, your submission/vote IS
anonymous. I DO, however, look at IP addresses and do a database matchup to
check for multiple submissions from a single IP address (this is known as
"ballot stuffing" and it's just plain WRONG - please be ethical
people). When I encounter multiple IP addresses, I will count only the FIRST
ballot cast from that IP.
- A note on
how I come up with the winning nominees - I take the valid ballots and compile the data into a database, then
look at the nominee with the most votes. That simple. I don't pick and
choose, I don't play favorites - as voters, YOU play favorites. At the
last ceremonies I was accused of stuffing the ballot box myself. I found
this accusation offensive and petty. I don't CARE who wins -- I do this for
FUN and it should be fun for YOU to. If you are a competitive, jealous
person and have a tendency to be a poor loser, then it might be in your best
interest to not attend the ceremony. I make every effort to run a clean
vote. No one but me knows the results of the voting until the moment I send
a message to the next presenter. My presenters have all been incredibly
honest and ethical people, no one has ever changed the vote on me when I
asked them to present, a fact for which I am everlastingly grateful and
which confirms my faith in people in general. It's all on the honor system,
a system to which I strictly adhere and in which I believe. Please be kind,
tolerant and a good sport!
- Again, I'm sorry if you
didn't hear about the balloting until it was too late. My resources are
limited and I depend on my fellow Lakers to spread the news about it's
availability. In order to actually put the Awards together, though, I
have to stick with the schedule.
The nominating ballot is
now operational!
The deadline for nominations is 9:00pm PST, Tuesday,
December 28, 1999.
Don't be late!
