PIEDMONT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
LIBRARY

 Library Information

Piedmont Elementary School was remodeled in 1996, adding six new classrooms and a library in the process.  In 1997 the Follett Circulation PLUS automated circulation system was installed, making Piedmont the first elementary school in the Jefferson County system to be automated. In 1998 the CONCOURSE automated circulation and cataloging system was installed.  This system, developed by Books Systems Incorporated, not only provides a Windows interface for ease of access, but  is also a networked program.  This allows all of our students and teachers to have access to the library catalog without leaving their classroom!  For more information on this system, e-mail Bruce Price.  At the present time, our collection consists of approximately 2700 books, 100 videotapes, 55 multimedia computer programs and  approximately 75 miscellaneous audiovisual items.  Though this is a rather small collection, it is growing rapidly with the assistance of donations from the Carson-Newman Library, the Kiwanis Club, and other generous patrons in our community.  The library has full internet access on four networked computers.  In addition to this access through the library, our students have internet access available in every classroom at Piedmont.

Piedmont currently shares a librarian with Talbott Elementary School.  Ms. Karen Cragwall, who served as Librarian for several years in a shared position including Maury Middle School, is now full-time Librarian at Maury. Mr. Troy Gill served as her successor and began setting up the new library during the 1996-97 school year.  He was subsequently hired as a third-grade teacher at Talbott Elementary School.  Mr. Gill was succeeded by Mr. David Goff in the 1997-98 school year.  Mr. Goff came to Piedmont after serving for six years as Librarian and Technology Coordinator at Mountain View Youth Development Center, which includes a fully-accredited Correctional School for juveniles who have been adjudicated delinquent by the State of Tennessee. Mr. Goff left Piedmont to serve as the Technology Librarian at Dobyns-Bennett High School and Ms. Mary Holmes  served as our librarian for the 1998-1999 school year. Jimmy McMahan will be serving as librarian for the 1999-2000 school year.
