Fun Facts About Science!

Ever Herd of Cows?

What do you call a group of animals standing together?

Lots of animal groups are just called "herds." You can have a herd of cows, elephants, or buffalo. But, just like birds, some animals have special group names!

Many animals, like this coral, live together in a "colony." A coral actually consists of tiny animals that have made a hard covering for themselves.

Lions live together in family groups called "prides." The female, or lioness, does all the hunting. Males are too big to hunt successfully, so they defend the family against threats.

Gorillas also live in family groups. A group of gorillas is called a "shrewd."

Seals live together in breeding colonies called "rookeries."

Fish live in "schools" for protection against predators.
