Crownpoint Jr/Sr High School M.E.S.A club is an academic club made up of 48 Junior High and High School students for the year. M.E.S.A stands for Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievment, Inc. It is a state sponsored organization that also receives funding from private organizations and corporations. M.E.S.A.'s goal is to increase the number of minority students employed in the fields of Engineering and Science. M.E.S.A has very strict criteria to be a M.E.S.A member, including GPA minimums, Tutoring, Community Involvement and specific course requirements. It is the Crownpoint Chapter's goal to raise funds for various field trips, activities and competitions against other M. E.S.A schools. M.E.S.A meets every Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 in room #22 at Crownpoint High School. DeAnna Devore (junior) is the M.E.S.A President, Andrea Martin (junior) is the Vice-President, Leora Shorty (senior) is the Secretary and Robert Tcherneshoff (Science Instructor) is the advisor of our club. Various competitions include: impromptu speaking, on-site technical writing, engineering design and problem solving. Parachute design, paper bridge and solar powered car designs are just a sample of the competitions students have been and will be involved in. Several field trips to Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico State Legislature and University on site visits have been scheduled throughout the school year.
