Photos from the former WJZB-TV Transmitter Site

Asnebumskit Hill, Paxton, Massachusetts

WAAF (107.3) Transmitter Building
Gone is the old Quonsett hut that housed Channel 14's transmitter. The original building was destroyed by a fire of suspicious origin that effectively ended the operations of WJZB-TV in the Spring of 1969.

The original W1XOJ/W43B Transmit Tower
The original tower is still intact and plays host to the operations of WAAF (107.3) plus several cellular companies and land-mobile operations.

The 3-bay WAAF antenna
These are the three antenna bays of WAAF (107.3) in Worcester, MA. This station can indirectly trace its' roots to the days of W1XOJ, W43B and WGTR (99.1), the FM stations of "The Yankee Network", and were instrumental in helping Major Edwin Howard Armstrong invent and innovate the FM broadcasting that we now enjoy today. Though WGTR left the air in the early 1950's, the station returned to the air in 1961 as WAAB-FM and became WAAF/FM Stereo in 1967.
