Very interesting, I really enjoy everything about television broadcasting. I have a few uhf and vhf tv transmitters that I play with, right here in New York and in Puerto Rico. Do you know of any sites dedicated to TV Pirates? I haven't found any. Got any ideas? I will appreciate your help.

Thank for writing, Victor. As for info regarding TV Pirates, you might want to check out the ACE website. Please check for them through Yahoo!

Like the UHF vault. Didn't know about ch.16 in Providence. I do remember seeing WTAO-56 in 1955 on a neighbor's set. Also clearly remember WHCT-18 from the 1963-65 era (when we moved to D.C.). How can one explain their scrambling method? It was unlik anything I've ever seen since. It was sort of like 1000 different squares on the screen with very high pitched whiney sounds in the background-almost "spacelike". WJZB-14 did have some interesting programming. I was into taping TV theme songs and thei schedule included tons of loser-defunct filmed shows from the early 50's like "Meet Corless Archer", "Pride of the Family", "Follow that Man", etc. It was like hitting a goldmine.

Hi Jeff and welcome to my webpage ! I wish I saw those "golden days" of WJZB-TV, Channel 14. From what I have been able to gather, it was a VERY interesting station, to say the least ! I hope to update the WJZB/14 history very soon WHCT-TV was another very interesting station that has been added to the "Morgue". The good thing about Channel 18 is that it does have a "happy ending". It has come back from the dead ! WHCT was using the Zenith Phonevision system. It was disaster f om day ONE ! What killed WHCT's "Pay TV" experiment was that it could NOT broadcast in color AND .... people simply did NOT pay their bills. It was too much, too soon..... way ahead of its' time. Thanks for dropping me a line. Stop by again soon !! -P te-

Thank you, Mike, for stopping by my webpage. I, for one, am a big fan of British radio. I personally enjoy "Capital Gold, 1548" in Internet Stereo. The BBC "World Service" holds a special place in my heart, as well. It was the first shortwave radio station I ever heard in 1969, way back when I was only 9 years old. Today, I still depend on it for quality unbiased news reporting. THAT is something quite lacking in radio and television, on this side of the "pond". Thank you for joining us and pleas "drop by" anytime. -Pete-

I found your home page from your postings on the Boston Radio mailing list. I am a radio junkie and used to love Boston radio, but these days I find it all very boring, music, talk, news, blah blah blah. Just got back into SW a little, and also internet adio, which is my newest addiction.

Hi Phyllis ! Thanks for stopping by. Like you, I am very fed-up about the state of Boston radio. It is a vast resource of "nothing". With three companies owning the market, the saturated "fat" is over-whelming. "Traffic and we ther together", "Another ten in a row, with NO talk" and so on. If you like Internet radio, please try my "live links" page. Chances are, there's a format for YOU ! Take care. -Pete-

As I just laid down for a good nights sleep. I heard a noise, it sounded like a radio bleep. I looked at my meters, frequency counters all through the night. Every button I turned I just could not get it right. Finally I opened up the window and looked up to the roof. Well no wonder I had problems, there was my antenna pressed under a hoof. I yelled at the fat man "Hey you knocked me out" , He said now now this isn't the time to get mad and pout. Don't you worry, your antenna may have no life. I didn't mean it, just ask your wife. Anyway Christmas morning you will see everything will be all right. Why no more AM, FM. Why you'll be on satellite. MERRY CHRISTMAS...

And a Merry Christmas to you and yours, Tom !! -Pete-

Hi! I'm the program director and afternoon news anchor at WSRO 1470 AM in Marlboro, MA. I'm absolutely fascinated with your UHF mourge! I'm just a tad too young to remember channel 14 in Worcester, but just mentioning the tuners reminded me of a time in my life when fine tuning UHF was an experience. I always thought the UHF stations were cooler than VHF because they had the best reruns back in the early 70s. My friends and I used to hang around at age 4 or 5 and watch "I Dream of Jeannie" and "Get Sma t" (still my favorite show) all the time. My youngest brother is 17, and he doesn't get it when I tell him about a world PC (pre-cable). Thanks for bringing back some nice memories. One more thing you may find intersting, as far as television reception is concerned. When I was attending Gordon College in Wenham MA in the mid 80s I could pull in (in addition to all the Boston stations) WJAR and WPRI from Providence. If I went to the student lounge on the other side of the dorm, I pulled in all the New Hampshire and Southern Maine stations. As far as radio goes, I became an AM junkie fairly early because my family only had one TV (those were the days!) and I wanted to follow baseball and hockey. Radio is probably how I wound up becoming a Hartford Whaler fan. I couldn't get the Bruins in, ound WTIC by mistake and got hooked! I also liked listening to French stations out of Montreal. Although I grudgingly accepted FM over the years, I still scan the AM dial from time to time. In fact, WSRO was, until a few months ago, one of the few AM m sic stations in this area. I kind of miss DJing, but news is nice. Anyway, thanks for the memories!
