Adam & Eve
Adam Names Animals

Topics covered in this document:

Introduction

The angels existed before God had created Adam and Eve. In fact, they were created before the animals as well.

When God created the animals, He asked the angels to guess the sacred names that He had chosen for all the animals of the world. But the angels failed the test and couldn't guess their names.

Satan Demands a Test

When God created Adam, Satan, a high-ranking angel, grew envious of the favor God showed toward Adam. Why should man, Satan asked, be given more attention than the angels when the angels were created first? To prove to God that man was no better than the angels, Satan demanded that Adam be given the same test as the angels. He wanted to show God that man couldn't guess the sacred names of animals any better than the angels did.

To prove to the angels, especially to Satan, that man was the greatest of His creations, God assembled all the angels together for the test. He then had Adam stand before the assembly, and God brought all the animals of the world before Adam one by one.

Satan reluctantly agreed that if Adam could name them all, then he would concede that man was indeed the greater creation.

God Cheats

But when Adam's test began, God kinda cheated. As each animal was presented to Adam, God posed His questions in such a way that the first letter of the first word of each sentence was always the first letter of the particular animal's name.

By this trickery, Adam won the contest. And because he had been able to discern the nature of God's deception, he was called a prophet.

It seems God is not above cheating when it serves His purpose or that of the people inventing the myths.
