The trouble with writing down feelings is that feelings change. That's alright if you write down sad or bad or angry feelings and then re-read them when you're happy, because you can think to yourself, I guess things aren't so hopeless as they seemed then. But if you write down happy feelings and re-read them after a seismic emotional shift...
I remember being that happy, and being confident that such a pure feeling wouldn't fade. Confident -- aye, there's the rub. How can anyone be confident when it's clear that things never ever work out the way you planned? All the best intentions in the world don't mean a thing...All my talents -- whatever they may be -- can't guarantee me anything. So if I can't ever be sure of the outcome, will someone please explain to me exactly how and why I'm supposed to be confident?
or return to books and poetry...
