VISIT
OVERDUE
She nods and snores
as we sit and converse
her deep wrinkles smiling
redundancy sets in
My comments becoming terse
A life time of memories
captured in photographs
resting on the table
in a cotton covered box
next to a faded serigraph
She fluidly spins a yarn
of a favorite childhood antic
dozing briefly again, I wait
carefully straightening my wrinkled skirt
Freshening my lipstick
Momentarily her eyes flutter
she continues without a pause
as if time was irrelevant
all moments as one
woven loosely together like her shawl
The afternoon light fades
Silent shadows engulf the room
I rise awkwardly, kissing her forehead
Promising to return, as she squeezes my hand
leaving behind a small silver heirloom
She snores and nods
as I glance back from the door
Night drawn like a curtain
memories silently echo
a lifetime trailing upon the floor
