Changing Seasons

CHANGING SEASONS

Summer splendor fades,
as autumn brilliance grows.
The ground, littered with gold,
reflected in the sunset.
Grass peeks out from the leaves
as if waving its last goodbye.
Silhouette of  bare tree limbs
stark against the early evening sky.
Smoke from the neighbor’s chimney
curls and whispers away.
The cool breeze brings a hint
of red to the cheeks.
It's time all too soon
to withdraw sweaters
from the mothballs.
The nip in the air hints
of winter's approach.
