In one of the previous workcamps it was suggested to us, by a Slovenian association MOST (The Bridge) to do an independent workcamp in Nablus, in particular, with the Palestinian children of the refugeecamps. This camp has to focus on children activities, such as painting, teaching English, folklore, theatre, for example, and to have a two way direction between the international and local participants and the children of the refugee camps. The international and local participants will learn about the refugee camp and related issues, and the children will have activities in their vacation, which they do not have in normal situations. We are planning to organize such a camp next summer.Since we were working as part of other workcamps, we always worked under the organizational structure of a committee. To organize a camp as we just suggested, we were looking for a more stronger organizational structure.
We want to use this organization to strengthen our organizational structure, to re-activate and to build a future generation of Palestinian youth, working and participating in this field. Since we are in a very early stage we need the recognition, or adoption of this organization, by a strong international youth association who is working in the field of international voluntary workcamps, especially in Palestine.
In order to organize this refugee-children-workcamp in the Summer of 1999 and other camps in September, November, and December of 1999 (also in anticipation of Bethlehem 2000) and in the future, we are now building our own independent organization.
