Krasnodar, 14 October, 1998.

Greetings in Jesus precious Name,

Here is our news from Russia again, not only for the sake of informing you of the latest events, but mainly to declare the faithfulness of our Lord and Savior.
On September the 19th, we celebrated the first wedding in this new little team. This young couple had waited patiently for many months hoping to have the wedding under the big tent, and finally brother Alexei and sister Ljuba got married. We do believe they will be able to serve the Lord better as a family and families give stability to the team. During this first year and a half in Russia, Laila and myself have been the only married couple.
Russian weddings are very nice since almost everybody that are invited participate in the program with a poem, a song or word of encouragement. People do have a different sense of time, as nobody is in a hurry, and the even can last for several hours. If relatives cannot come, they might send a written message, to be read in the wedding.
The very next day we started to put down the big tent; again a lot of work for the few of us, but around 3 p.m. a bus with about 20 brothers came to help and everything went very smooth and fast. During the last week of our crusade in Kuleshovka, four Pastors came the last visit us, to see if they could use the tent during the winter, which e agreed on. It might sound really strange that they wanted to use the tent in the south, and the winter is more mild; the temperature stays around freezing point. They also will put a few heaters in the tent to melt the snow off the tent and to warm it up for the meetings. We already have two heaters that we brought from Italy. Anyway this will be an experiment and we are excited to see how it will work out. So the tent will be up until the 15th of April in one of the main parks of Krasnodar. It is a very beautiful place, not far from down town.
Coming to Krasnodar, the church offered us a house, 4 rooms and a kitchen. There is even a shower and hot water, which is like luxury for us. The family that lived here just immigrated to America. We waited a few days before putting up the tent, because there were threats of demonstrations and upraises against the government on the 8th of October. The church had organized a 4 days conference by the Black Sea. About 800 believers from different churches came, to unite efforts, to fast and pray that the doors will stay open and for God to bring a revival. We felt really blessed to be there also.
Putting up the big tent again was easy because we were almost 100 brothers for the job. The first meeting on the 9th of October was of course very special and everybody was very excited and thankful to God seeing how he had answered their need in such a beautiful and surprising way. There were at least 2000 people gathered and at the altar call, 25 people came to give their lives to the Lord. Well, the congregation and the Pastors like the tent so much that they are now seeing about the possibilities in buying one to use it on the permanent basis, maybe one section bigger than ours. Laila and myself might bring it from Italy next year but we are also looking into the possibilities of shipping it. Pray for us that we might be able to fulfill this task.
A sister in the church that is very active in social work and helping poor and needy, organized a trip to orphanage to give us a first hand information of the needs in Russia. There were about 150 children there and we were able to have a meeting there with songs and testimonies. They gathered together and stood quietly and listened, thirsty for love and attention. Hopefully the team will be able to have meetings there once a week. Most of the children do have parents, but due to alcohol or unstable homes the children are put in the orphanage. This place already exists for 30 years and some of the old workers, sad to say, have seen the children and grand children of those that grew up there, end up back in this Children Home. When they leave the place at the age of 18, they have great difficulties to adapt and many and up in prison. During this time of economical crisis, many Children Homes are just barely making it, because of lack of funds and food price goes up.
Our main need in the team is for laborers. We trust the Lord will answer our prayer and next year we will be able to accommodate those that the Lord sends into these fields of Russia.
For sure, we live in the world full of spiritual needs. May the Lord make us sensitive to the needs around us; as Jesus when He saw the multitudes, felt compassion for them. May we feel the Lord feels, so we can stretch forth our hand to help.

God bless you,
Pedro and Laila Viaud.
