Text Conveys a Message

Traditionally text has been used to convey messages. "Words and symbols, in any form, are the most common system of communication" (Vaughan 192). We consider the written word as the most valuable and reliable source for communicating information. The importance of good text and strong content cannot be overstated. It is important to be able to combine text with other elements of multimedia to produce a product that communicates the information most efficiently and effectively.

"Today's poets and songwriters
concentrate text by distilling
prose into a very few words
heavy with meaning" (Vaughan, 195).

"Advertising wordsmiths render the
meaning of entire product lines into
an evocative single word, logo, or
tag line" (195).

"Multimedia authors weave words,
symbols, sounds, and images, and then
blend text into the mix to create
integrated tools and interfaces for
acquiring, displaying, and disseminating
messages and data, using computers" (195).
