Why do Colors FADE in the Sun?

  • Fading is caused by UltraViolet and visible light

  • The coatings on low solar heat gain low-E windows cut fading almost 50% vs. uncoated

  • There are two common fade measurements:
    -Tuv - measured over 300-380nm
    -Tdw - weighted over 300-600nm

  • Tdw is the more reliable indicator for fading

  • Laminated glass & plastic films block UV but low solar gain low-E glass has equal ability to reduce overall fading from UV & visible light
