OFFSHORE: Talk about variable winds! Cold Westerlies earlier in the week, N/E on Saturday, then N/W to N/E till Wednesday when it was 15-20 knot S to S/W. Add in a mediocre moon phase and offshore could at best be described as pretty ordinary. The best Snapper and Pearl Perch came from Double Island Point while Andrew Jones reported average catches of Squire, Sweetlip and Snapper from North and Sunshine Reefs. Sunshine also had the odd Coral Trout. The Barwon Banks yielded mostly Parrot Fish and Maori Cod but it was apparently hard work getting any numbers. ONSHORE: The Northern end of Sunshine Beach produced some quality Bream (on Mullet flesh) around dusk and Dart from the rocks, mostly on live Worms. A number of good Whiting were taken at Tea Tree Bay. With the high tides later in the afternoon the North Shore saw quality Tailor coming from the surf just South of the 'Cherry Venture' and plenty of Bream, Whiting and Flathead from the beach gutters at Teewah. A few Chopper Tailor were taken on Pillies opposite the 2nd and 3rd Cuttings. In the river, Flathead were up in numbers with most taken on the drift from Tewantin to the mouth. Prawn, Yabbie and Frogmouth Pilchards were best baits. The Woods Bay side of the Sound yielded Tailor on Yellowtail fillets, small Raider and Rio's Prawn lures while the better quality Bream were found around the Frying Pan. Mullet (flesh and gut), Prawn and Whitebait worked best there. Munna Point around to Weyba Creek produced some excellent Whiting on live Worms and Yabbies. On the freshwater scene Lake MacDonald was alive with Bass, all going for live Shrimp. |
![]() Wade Kehl was in the right spot on one of the public jetties on Noosa Parade in the Sound when the Tailor were on the bite. This 1.73kg specimen jumped his Yellowtail flesh bait on Monday and with a 28lb line and trace on a Jarvis Walker/Alvey reel combo he had no trouble landing it. The fact that he even got a bite with that line weight is more of a surprise than anything. |

Last Friday was a great day as far as fourteen year old Tracy Collen was concerned. On holiday in Noosa from Wellington, New Zealand she spent a morning with her mum and dad on Andre Beck's 'Becky II' . Apart from the obligatory Whiting and Bream, Tracy landed this 1.5kg 'Lizard' using a Wilson 8ft fibreglass rod and Wilson spinning reel loaded with 6lb line. She tempted this fella with a Whitebait while they were drifting in Lake Cooroibah. |
![]() Dominique was out on the river in a hire boat from 'T-Boat' on Sunday afternoon and landed this nice fish five minutes after anchoring off Munna Point. She was armed with a Silstar Power Tip rod and Longcast reel loaded with 6lb line. Her bait was live Beach Worm. |
![]() Young Caroline landed the biggest Bream of the morning (800gm) and two other nice ones (600 & 700gm) plus a couple of Yellowtail Pike. She was using a Wilson Junior Angler rod and reel combo, 6lb line and, alternately, Whitebait and Prawn. Most of the action was around the Frying Pan. |
