The New Negro Literary Movement

The New Negro Literary Movement was a search for artistic and other types of cultural expression. The movement took place in the United States as well as in other parts of the world. The main ideas behind the New Negro Literary Movement were the same as the concepts and motivating factors of the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920's: the development of racial pride and self-confidence through literarture, and the attempt of African Americans to rediscover themselves. The literature of the time was also used to define the "Black Experience."
