Weinsberg
Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany
1525
- 16 April 1525
- The local peasants attacked the castle of Weinsberg on this Easter day, capturing the countess and her children. The count, Ludwig von Helfenstein, was inside the town walls at the time, where he and his associates were seized and taken to a field to the west, in the direction of Heilbronn. The peasants forced the count and his nobles to run the gauntlet, eventually slaying them all with lances. Finally, the peasants returned to the castle and burned it down. This action became known as the Massacre of Weinsberg.
