As the result of a blood libel (the accusation of using Christian blood for ritual purposes), 30 Jews were burned at the stake.

The Jews were expelled from the city.


1507

Balthasar Hubmaier arrived here from Freiburg, Germany to accept a teaching job. He had been forced to interrupt his university studies because of financial difficulties.


1524

10 May 1524
The abbot of the Benedictine Abbey of All Saints turned the facility over to the City Council. This was the first Reformation event in Schaffhausen.

29 August 1524
Balthasar Hubmaier arrived in Schaffhausen from Waldshut on or shortly after this date. He received asylum in the Benedictine Abbey of All Saints. Hubmaier stayed for the next 2 months. (See 27 October 1524 below.)

27 October 1524
Balthasar Hubmaier left Schaffhausen and returned to Waldshut.


1525

February 1525
Conrad Grebel arrived in Schaffhausen and, with the assistance of Wilhelm Reublin & Johannes Brotli, began promoting the Anabaptist program amongst the ministers of the city. At some point Conrad baptized a former monk named Wolfgang Ulimann in the Rhine River.

After 2 months of agitation, Conrad Grebel left town and returned to Zurich.
