- The Flagellants arrived in Magdeburg.

- 15 August 1524
- On this Sunday, the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin, an evangelical preacher spoke out against the custom of consecreating herbs and flowers for use as good luck charms. He mentioned that, a year earlier in Jena, some youths had removed the herbs and flowers from their church and scattered them in the street. Taking this suggestion to heart, a crowd went from church to church, removed the herbs and flowers, and threw them around Magdeburg's marketplace. At the Franciscan church the crowd heckled the midday preacher and pelted him with rocks and eggs. Some choir members returned fire, provoking the crowd to smash some of the church's images. The rowdies proceeded to St. Nicolaus Church, then the Pauliner Church, and finally the cathedral. In the end all religious services in the city were suspended.
