A group of men were burned at the stake for refusing to kill a chicken. Presumably they were vegetarians, which aroused suspicion because vegetarianism was associated with the ancient heresy of Manichaeism. The "Goslar heretics" are considered to be the first individuals executed for heresy in medieval Germany.
