What Shall We Do? Acts 2:37 I. Introduction. A. Some people never get an answer because they never ask the right question. B. Asking a question indicates: 1. An interest in the subject. 2. A desire for more information. 3. How something affects me. 4. An answer that affects me. C. The right question: Acts 2:37. 1. Why did they ask it? a. Peter had taught them about Jesus and His crucifixion. b. Pointed out: Acts 2:36. (1 Had their attention, concern, and interest. (2 They did--but all men are responsible: Romans 5:7. c. They were convinced of the message and realized they must do something. 2. This question is the right question for everyone: one not obedient to the gospel, one who has wandered, and one who is faithful to the Lord. II. Body. What shall we do.... A. If we have not obeyed the gospel? 1. Consider these events on Pentecost. a. Jesus had been crucified: Mark 15:25. (1 Mistreatment before: Matthew 27:27- 31. (2 One of the most cruel deaths a man can suffer. b. They were assembled to observe the Jewish holiday(50th day after Passover). c. Jesus crucified during the Passover feast week. 2. These people came to perform as a Jew: many would leave as Christians. a. Perhaps all who heard Peter(a multitude!) were not personally involved in the crucifixion, but they were responsible: Acts 2:23. b. When convinced: they obeyed the word of God. 3. Conviction brings obedience: Acts 2:37. 4. They must: Acts 2:38. a. Already understood(had faith) about Jesus Christ. b. To complete obedience is to become a Christian, a saved person. 5. All alien sinners must obey the truth. a. Once convinced--obedience follows. b. When one realizes that he/she is a sinner and understands the plan for salvation, it is time to obey. 6. Note: I Peter 4:18. B. If we have wandered from the Lord and His cause? 1. People do stray: Acts 5:3. 2. Even apostles had problems. a. Judas never returned to the Lord... b. Peter changed and was strong for the Lord as an apostle. 3. This person needs conversion: a. Note: James 5:19-20. b. Explain convert. c. Not an easy task to bring one back to the Lord: but we must work at it. 4. How does one return?(review Simon) a. Convicted(acknowledgment) of sin: Acts 8:21. b. Repentance: Acts 8:22 c. Pray: Acts 8:24. 5. Having knowledge of one's condition is not enough: a change must be made. 6. Remember: II Peter 2:21. C. If we are faithful to the Lord? 1. Obvious: remain faithful. 2. The reward: Revelation 2:10. a. Even if it means death; right on through death. b. How sad when one comes to the end of one's life and gives up the Lord. c. "I gave my life for thee..." 3. We are stewards: I Corinthians 4:2. 4. The Lord helps us: I Corinthian 10;13. 5. Complete and dedicated obedience as a Christian is the only way for a disciple. 6. When one puts the Lord first in one's life, resolves to follow diligently the commands of Christ and to avoid the sins that entangle and destroy the soul: that one will have this reward: I Peter 1:4. III. Conclusion. A. What shall we do to go to heaven? B. The decision is up to you and if you desire, we till help you.-JY
