Jesus Cares I Peter 5:7 I. Introduction. A. Comment on song: "Does Jesus Care?"(p. 466) 1. Peter said He did: I Peter 5:7. a. Can put our concerns on Him. b. A way to handle misgivings, heartaches, and disappointments. 2. When there seems no other hope--turn to the Lord. 3. When there seems no other way--turn to the Lord. 4. When all else seems to fail--turn to the one who truly cares. 5. Men may care--for a while--the Lord always cares. B. Define care. 1. English: Solicitude, attention, object of watchful regard(Webster). 2. Greek: To be anxious about; take thought; to have a care for, etc.(Vine). 3. Casting: to deposit; throw upon. II. Body. A. Jehovah cared about Adam and Eve in the garden. 1. Provided everything they needed. 2. Made a perfect environment for them. 3. Protected them from the unpleasant things we face. 4. He cared enough for Adam to create a mate from his side. 5. Evidence of care: Genesis 6:6. B. Jehovah cared about his chosen nation, the Israelites. 1. The initial care: Abraham. 2. Hence: Genesis 12:1-3. 3. The Lord blessed them when they were faithful: grieved over them when they sinned. 4. Protected them from enemies: punished them when they rebelled. 5. Cared enough: Psalm 95:10. C. God cares for those of today. 1. For all of mankind: wants all to obey and be saved. 2. His appeal of truth is for all of mankind. 3. For every breath and every physical blessing: all comes from Jehovah. 4. From the most repulsive to the elite: from the tramp to the President: Jesus cares. D. The Father cared enough to send His Son into a sin-cursed world. 1. Remember John 3:16. 2. Would you care enough for a murdering thief to die for him? 3. Could you, as a parent, allow your child to die for the masses of humanity? 4. Also: I Corinthians 9:9-10. 5. He cared enough to send the best. E. Christ cared enough to agonize a cruel death on a cross. 1. Manifested the love of the Father. 2. He wept for Lazarus because he cared. 3. He felt sorrowful when a rich young man turned away from Him. 4. He had compassion for the Jews: Matthew 23:37. 5. But more than that, he died the cruelest of deaths for all of mankind: Romans 5:6-8. F. The apostles cared enough to sacrifice themselves in His service for those who had lived, for those then living, and those of the future. 1. Note what Paul said: I Corinthians 7:32. 2. Even those who were taught by the apostles: Philippians 2:20. 3. Came from God: II Corinthians 8:16. G. Jesus cares enough to bear the burdens of mankind. 1. You can cast your fears and anxieties on Him: I Peter 5:7. 2. He has been there: He lived as a man! 3. The only hope for heaven comes through His care in dying and preparing a way for all. H. The Lord wants us to care for one another: I Corinthians 12:2 1. Note I Corinthians 12:26. 2. How near to the Lord would this draw us! 3. That care is physical(when needed) and spiritual (always needed). 4. Such care is expressed in righteous living, emotions, and actions. III. Conclusion. A.
