"Who Sinned?" John 9:2 I. Introduction. A. Read John 9:2 and comment. B. We might cry: "Whose fault is it?" C. Jesus answered their inquiry: John 9:3. D. The question could be appropriate--under proper circumstances. E. Whose fault is it when someone sins? II. Body. A. Is it God's fault? 1. Some people blame the Lord for their problems. 2. Satan, not God, introduced sin. 3. Mankind has chosen to keep it here. 4. Note: John 8:44. B. Is it society's fault? 1. Satan did introduce: man chose to participate. 2. Adam said it was Eve's fault; Eve accused Satan. 3. Many blame others for their sins-- 4. Are we a product of our environment? Or--can overcome? C. Is it the fault of Christians? 1. Some would infer--- 2. "You try to legislate morals." 3. "You are expecting too much." 4. "You are judging me." 5. "You did not come to get me out of my sins." D. Is it the fault of someone who led the person to sin? 1. That fault is: leading one to sin(stumble). Romans 14:13. 2. Jesus did warn: Matthew 18:6. 3. Paul warned: I Corinthians 8:12. 4. If they do not like something I do or say(not wrong)--I have not caused them to stumble when they quit Christ. 5. If I did not sin against one and lead him to sin--there is no fault in me. 6. But: does not excuse the stumbler. E. It is the fault of the one who sins. 1. If one hears truth--continues in sin--it is his fault: Acts 7:51. 2. When one departs from God by continuing in sin--it is his fault: Ezekiel 18:20-21. 3. Whatever the circumstances: each person is individually responsible to God: Romans 14:12. 4. Whenever one sins, whatever else may have happened, it is that person's fault: Ezekiel 18:4. F. When one is in sin--what is our responsibility? 1. To teach alien or brother: Mark 16:15; Matthew 16:15. 2. To withdraw if brother continues in sin: Matthew 16:16-17. 3. To forgive if brother repents: Luke 17:3. 4. It is not our fault if one refuses to listen. 5. It has been suggested: everyone has the right to hear the truth at least once.
