Would I Walk With Christ? I John 2:5b-6 I. Introduction. A. Some of take daily walks--for health reasons. 1. To benefit, the walk must be kept on a daily basis. 2. Such walks can also be educational. 3. The walk is enjoyable when you walk with someone you like(or love). B. The Bible reveals a greater walk than the physical: I John 2:5b-6. II. Body. A. Would you have walked with Jesus while he was on the earth? 1. Several disciples had that privilege. 2. Can you imagine walking into the temple area with him? or through Jerusalem? or in the country round about? 3. Or being present when he raised the dead? or healed the blind and the lame? 4. Being able to speak with him and discuss spiritual matters? 5. Would you walk if he was the only one on the path? B. When the early disciples walked with Jesus: 1. They walked with him in the temple: John 10:23. a. It was the feast of dedication: wintertime. b. Jesus was interested in His father and His father's house. c. Would you have been uncomfortable walking in this sacred place? d. What questions would you ask him? 2. Peter walked with him on the water: Matthew 14:29. a. Jesus approached the boat on the water. b. The impetuous Peter left the boat to meet him. c. Fear overwhelmed the apostle and he began to sink: Jesus rescued. d. Jesus rebuked him for his doubt. 3. There was a time when Jesus walked no more openly in Jerusalem, but went into an area near the wilderness: John 11:54. a. Jesus was careful in his walk for his time was not yet--but drawing near. b. The Lord returned to the city for the feast of the Passover. (1 The multitude spread garments and branches in the way. (2 They shouted "Hosanna"--originally "God saves"--then a shout of praise. c. In a short while they would walk toward Golgotha. 4. Jesus would again walk among men after his resurrection: Luke 24:15-17; Mark 16:12. a. Proved him to be the Son of God. b. Walked to Bethany with disciples, then taken up. C. Of those who walked with Jesus, they: 1. Walked the paths of righteousness. 2. Walked among the poor and destitute. 3. Walked in places of danger: John 18:1. 4. Walked where there would be those who needed him: Mark 1:16. 5. Observed as they walked the path of sorrow: VIA DOLORASA(the sorrowful way). D. If you had walked with Jesus would you: 1. Conduct yourself as you do in the presence of others? 2. Manifest the attitude you show toward your family, friends, and neighbors? 3. Have the disposition you portray to other humans? 4. Dress in the clothes you wear in public places of today? 5. Use the same language you do around family and friends?(tell the same jokes?) 6. Practice the same habits you do in the presence of others? 7. We do walk with the Lord--by faith. III. Conclusion. A. A sad walk: John 6:66. B. Will you walk with Jesus Christ today--all the way to heaven?-jy
