The Beast

This morning I saw a magnificent sunrise
As morning came from the east,
And the shades of lavender and pink
Though beautiful, they bring me no peace.

For when I gaze upon anything of beauty
Thoughts of you seem to never cease
And no matter where I glance, no matter where I turn
I can never escape the Beast.

What was once my desiring dream
A nightmare has evolved in its dreadful demise
And now my heart can no longer see love
As but pain in a beautiful yet clever disguise.

Perhaps this feeling will pass
Perhaps a time will come again
Where I can see love as love
And not just as the Beast of misery's den.
