I went to the Battle of the Bands for a few reasons, mainly because my friends, Jenson were playing, but I also wanted to check out any other talented bands in the area. Unfortunately, there aren't many. At least not in round 1.
What I did hear there was like listening to Silverchair backwards (I can't stand hearing them played forwards), Mighty Mighty Bosstones wannabes… minus the trumpets, that is, and a few other bands that had no business being there… especially the one with the 40 year old drummer. I apologize for not listing the names of the bands that bit the big one, I don't remember half of them, and wouldn't want any to get mixed up. I gave up listening to them, as did all of my friends and we opted for hanging out in the lounge for a while.
The only talent I did find there was from about 3 bands. Jenson being one of them, as the scored highest that night with an 80%. They were the only band that actually LOOKED like performers, not a garage band. By far, the highlight of the evening. Coming in second place was Wallow Star, one of the finalists from last years' Battle. They were the only competition for Jenson, posting a score of 79%. The only other band (barely) deserving recognition would be the Fuzz.. that is until they decided to form a huddle in the middle of the set. There goes the stage presence points.
