My Fighters

Here are a few pictures of my own fighter kites.

"Starry Night"

This black one with stars is made from gift-wrap foil, a bamboo spine and a fibreglass bow.

It is based on Tom Humphrey's "Dragonfly" plan, which I got from the North East Fighter Kite Association website.

It's a fairly heavy kite, with a strong bow, so it needs more wind than some, and pulls hard. I flew this in the competition I won at Easter 2000.

 "Peter Lloyd"

This is my old faithful Peter Lloyd ripstop fighter. It's big, and has a tapered fiberglass bow, fibreglass spine and a "nose kick" at the bow crossing point formed by a small brass tube.

Whenever I think I've made a good kite I take this out to compare - this is a very good kite.

In addition to their flying ability these kites are extremely well made, and very durable.

"Cross"

This black and yellow ripstop applique'd kite is pretty saggy and baggy because my skills with the sewing machine are really not yet up to the task.

The idea was to build a pair of kites to fly together - a "Nought" and a "Cross"... Good idea, but the nought got lost so I'm left with one kite. Flys well, and looks exceptional in the sky!
