Killing Mr. Griffin

Lois Duncan

209

The main setting is a small town where all the characters live. It's very dusty and desert like, but not as quiet. The second setting is in the mountains, far bacj there by a little waterfall. Also there is a high school, a Snack 'n' Soda Shop, Susan's house, David's house, the gym, and the airport. The book does not give a lot of description on these places.

Susan McConnell is the main character of the book. She is quiet, shy, and not very popular. She is very smart- a straight A student. She is a junior yet smart enough to be in the senior English class. She has a major crush on David Ruggles. David Ruggles is president of the senior class. He is very popular and smart. Mark is one of David's friends. He is kind of mysterious. He pretty much hates Mr. Griffin, because his older girlfriend let him borrow an essay she did for college. Mr. Griffin recognized it from when he taught college and both Mark and his girlfriend got in trouble. His girlfriend's dad sent her away because he thought Mark was a bad influence on her. Jeff Garrett is Mark's best friend. He is very tall and is on the basketball team. Betsy Cline is Jeff's girlfriend. She is also very popular and the head cheerleader. The other characters in book are: Mr. Griffin, Grandma Ruggles, police officer, and Mrs. Griffin.

Problem Encountered

All the kids that have Mr. Griffin for English hate him. Even the straight A students, for they usually end up with only B's. One day, Mark comes up with an idea to kidnap Mr. Griffin. He gets for other people to help him: David, Jeff, Betsy, and Susan. They get him to stay after school so there's no one on the school ground's. As he leaves the three boys are waiting in the car. They tie him up and take his car up to the mountains where they leave him. Later, Betsy joins them up there. Later that night, David and Susan go up to check on him. They find him dead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Resolution to Problem

At the end, they all get found out. Mark has to face three trials, and the rest face one, except Susan, who was not really part of it. Still nobody knows what happened to Mr. Griffin.

Reccomendation

This was a very good book. It's good for people who love a lot of mystery. You also don't have to be a teenager to understand the book. I definitely reccomend it.
