Every six weeks the class will be involved in the preparation
of a project about a specific Hispanic country. At the beginning
of the six weeks-period the class will be divided into two groups
which will then be assigned two different countries. A variety
of topics will be suggested so the students can distribute them
among the members of the group and start their research.
Even though the students will be given some class time to research
their topics on the Internet as well as to visit the library,
they are encouraged to use their spare time to work on these projects
and utilize up-to-date resources from newspapers, magazines and
the news.
Each group will have a due date for the presentation of their
projects. This presentation will only last 90 minutes ( a class
period) and should reflect a team work production. Their final
product can be presented as a combination of a PowerPoint presentation,
video-tape, lecture, transparencies, food preparation, etc.
Every member of the group will have the opportunity to evaluate the other members of the group according to the degree of their effort and work on the project. This evaluation will be added to a group evaluation of the presentation given by the teacher; that will count as a quiz grade. At the same time the entire class (including the presenting group) will have a quiz regarding the country under study. All this makes two quiz grades for the entire class since all the students will be working on this project every six weeks.
